Fires burning up the heaven 'til it hurts my eyes
Starbright, starshine
Everything is beautiful
Wonder where you go to when you passed above this universe
Ultraviolet cosmic death-defying rays of light
Starshine, starbright
Everything is beautiful
Wonder where you go to when you passed above this universe
Starbright, starlight
Starbright, starlight
Starbright, starlight
Starbright, starlight
Stars shoot across the ever open midnight sky
Divine sign, man awake, the end of earth is nigh
Starbright, starshine
Everything is beautiful
Wonder where you go to when you passed above this universe
Starbright, starlight
Starbright, starlight

The lyrics of Gravy Train's song, "Starbright Starlight," are full of celestial imagery and wonder. The opening lines describe shooting stars across a midnight sky so vast that it seems never-ending. The fires burning up the sky are so intense that staring at them makes the eyes hurt. The chorus expresses the beauty in everything, with a sense of mystique and curiosity about where the passing stars go beyond this universe.
The second verse describes the intensity of the stars' light as "cosmic death-defying rays." The continuous turn and burn without an end, creates everlasting light. The chorus repeats, expressing the wonder and beauty of everything, including the stars.
Overall, the song seems to celebrate the awe we feel at the vastness of the universe, as well as our own human insignificance in comparison. The contemplative lyrics invoke a sense of humility and awe at the unknowable mysteries of the world beyond.

Awesome band. Very sad when you know their history. They never broke through the mainstream wall even though they were producing nipple-tingling tracks like this. I’m 47, work as a site manager at an apartment complex in Leeds. It’s 2020. I listen to the album Staircase To The Day in its entirety at least once a day on my iPhone. It’s absolutely brilliant. The saddest thing for me is this group we’re heavily active around Merseyside around when I was born, but they passed me by for decades. Not any more.

Gravy train were the no1 band in St. Helens from the late 60's into the early 70's I remember watching them perform at the cricket club the rooms full of smoke and the floors wet through with spilt beer and condensation. People say the Shadows inspired many people to take up the guitar but around St Helens Gravy Train have to take that honour. I was fortunate enough to see them perform this album live at the St Helens RFC ground in the 70's and yes I did go out and buy the album. This track to me is ageless and is one of my favourite songs of all time.
