Founded in 2005 by Manu Ferrón and Juan Rodríguez, aka "J" from succesful spanish indie band "Los Planetas". Other members are guitar player Víctor Lapido ("091", "Lagartija Nick"), bass player Miguel López ("Los Planetas") and Antonio Lomas, drums ("Lapido").
Their first album "Alegato Meridional" (El Ejército Rojo, 2006) is a hymn to the south, the mid-day (slow-tempo) activities and the joy of life. Sung in spanish with a strong accent from their hometown, Granada, the lyrics are mainly simple stories about meeting friends in the street, enjoying lazyness at home and what life is made of under the southern sun, with a common and easy language and a strong influence of their beloved american southern folk and country-ish music.
In that way, Grupo de Expertos Solynieve also covers tracks from other latitudes: "Ballad of the easy Rider" (The Byrds), "Personalitá Empírica" (Franco Battiato), "Déjame vivir con alegría" (Vainica Doble), "Sureños" (Silvio) aswell as many other live performances with songs from Gram Parsons.
Complete tracklist from "Alegato Meridional":

"Alegato Meridional" was preceeded by the single "Se ve que hay calidad" (El Ejército Rojo, 2006), including "24 hs al día" and the mentioned Franco Battiato cover, sung in italian and spanish and titled "Personalidad empírica" as B-sides.

y me pongo fatal,
no tengo donde estar
ni nadie que me entienda.
Y pienso en tus abrazos
y ahí querría estar,
pero eso estaría mal,
Y si me siento mal por mí,
por ti lo siento más,
porque yo soy igual
Pero alguien no?
Y le canto a los que creen
que no se va a arreglar.
Si nos ponemos a gritar,
tienen que oírnos.
Óyenos gritar.
No diré que te quiero,
porque no sería verdad,
pero lo puedo intentar.
Y lo sabes.
El amor es mucho más,
no se puede explicar,
Te lo tienes que currar
a diario.
Y los amantes pasan,
pero amigos de verdad
yo los puedo contar
con un dedo.
Y le canto a los que creen
que no se va a arreglar.
Si nos ponemos a gritar,
tienen que oírnos.
Óyenos gritar.
La distancia entre los dos
no parece cambiar.
Hay un muro en mitad,
de no entendimiento.
Y le canto a los que creen
que no se va a arreglar.
Si nos ponemos a gritar,
tienen que oírnos.
Óyenos gritar.
The lyrics to Grupo de Expertos Solynieve's "Blues Chillando en un Cubo" express feelings of loneliness, frustration, and the longing for connection. The singer reveals that sometimes they drink too much, leading them to feel terrible. They don't have a place to be or anyone who understands them. In these moments, they think about the warmth of someone's embrace, someone they wish they could be with, but they recognize that indulging in such desires would be selfish.
The singer acknowledges their own pain and sadness but also feels sorry for the person they desire. They see themselves as flawed and wonders whether the other person is the same. The lyrics become a plea to those who believe that things won't be fixed, urging them to listen to their cries. Through shouting and screaming, they hope to make their voices heard.
The song then shifts to discuss love in a broader sense. The singer refuses to say they love someone if it's not true, but they are willing to try. They believe that love goes beyond mere words and must be worked on every day. The lyrics express how lovers come and go, but true friends are rare, highlighting the importance of genuine friendship.
The relationship between the singer and the person they desire seems to be stuck in the same place, with no progress. There is a metaphorical wall of misunderstanding standing between them, creating distance despite their longing for connection. The song concludes with another call to those who doubt that things can be resolved, emphasizing the need for their voices to be heard through shouting and screaming.
Overall, "Blues Chillando en un Cubo" captures the emotional turmoil of loneliness, longing, and the desire for understanding and connection. It delves into complex emotions, exploring themes of love, friendship, and the difficulties of communication.
