Wandering
Gungor Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've been wandering through this world
Looking for an anchor to hold me
I've been stumbling through this world
Searching for the thread that might free me

I am looking to you
I am holding on to you
I've been wandering through this world
Looking for an anchor to hold me
I've been stumbling through this world
Searching for the thread that might free me

I am looking to you
I am holding on to you
I am looking to you
I've been holding on to you

I've been wandering through this world
Looking for a love that might free me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Gungor's song "Wandering" are a testament to the human experience of searching for meaning in life. The first two lines speak of the singer's constant movement through the world, as they try to find something to anchor them, to provide stability in the midst of the constant changes and challenges that life throws their way. The following two lines speak of their search for a sense of direction, a thread that might guide them through their struggles and allow them to break free of the cycle of wandering.

The chorus of the song, with its repeated lines, "I am looking to you / I am holding on to you," underscores the idea that the singer's search for meaning and purpose is ultimately tied to their relationship with a higher power, likely God. They recognize that their own efforts to find what they're looking for will always fall short, and they need to rely on something outside of themselves to provide the anchor and direction they seek.

The final line, "Looking for a love that might free me," brings the song to a close with the idea that what the singer is ultimately searching for is love. Not just any love, but a love that will set them free from the constraints of wandering and lead them to a place of rest and peace.

Overall, the song is a poignant reflection on the human experience of searching for meaning and finding hope in something beyond ourselves.

Whenever I hear the second half of this song, I just imagine myself on a cliff-side at the sea, with everything crumbling away and raging into non-existence, while each time she sings, a new wave of light and awe overtakes all of existence and commands my gaze. I'm not religious, but I can imagine Lisa's God is more beautiful than any that I have seen proposed before.

I almost can’t breathe! This touches my soul so deeply….I’m simply without words. Heavenly tones, no doubt! I love love love!!!!!

The autotune has a purpose. It took me fifteen listens in a row but the last verse, the only one in which she sings 'Love', is not autotuned. Perhaps the autotune is intended to imply lack of clarity, and looking for Love in the wrong place, hence the break in the song with the wailing.

It's easy enough to apply this song to a relationship with a person, but it's not about a person, it's about finding God's Love...

So many people stumbling through life just desperate for life and love but not willing to look to Jesus or just don't think that's where they'll find it. I cry over this I can not imagine how God feels.
