One Man Wrecking Machine
Guster Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I built a time machine
I'm going to see the homecoming queen
Take her to the Christmas dance
Maybe now I'll get in her pants
Whatever

Back with my high school friends
Meeting where the train tracks end
Passing round a skinny joint
Rolling up to Lookout Point

I want to pull it apart and put it back together
I want to relive all my adolescent dreams
Inspired by true events on movie screens
I am a one man wrecking machine

Back in my parents' house
Back to the shouting out loud
One day you'll be a man
One day you'll understand

I want to pull it apart and put it back together
I want to relive all my adolescent dreams
Inspired by true events on movie screens
I am a one man wrecking machine

Inspired by true events on movie screens
I am a one man wrecking machine

Here in the present tense
Nothing is making sense
Waiting for my moment to come
Everything has come undone

I tried to pull it apart and put it back together
No point in living in my adolescent dreams
Inspired by true events on movie screens
I am a one man wrecking machine

Inspired by true events on movie screens
I am a one man wrecking machine

The lyrics to Guster's song "One Man Wrecking Machine" convey a sense of nostalgia and a desire to relive the past. The singer wants to go back in time, to his high school days, where he could hang out with his friends and smoke joints. To this day Disturbia is my favorite movie. The way life was portrayed back then was just so much easier and happy. I struggle with depression and I love this song because it makes me remember everything about life back then, this song takes me back.

Exactly the same for me...

Same here! Just saw the movie yesterday ! The song is one of my favorites ! I remembered things from years ago and time flies by so fast ! It made me cry and realized that the things from your past stay with you forever and that is very special to me !

I just lost my job after 2 years by getting fired. I had been messing up my schedule and running late to work occasionally, but it was never reflective of my work ethic.

At 30 years old, I still live home with my parents, and the last 10 years have jaded me from all of my ambitions as I've lost sight and desire to accomplish a lot of them to the state of the world today.

The following night after I lost my job, I went for drive late at night and played the song in my car. I cried my eyes out because this is exactly the way I feel like I've hit a roadblock in my life. I love this band and I love this song, and it's further proof that music is powerful and can really define anything in your life. Don't give up, everybody.
