Wade through water
Numbed the lightness
Words don't bother
I cannot fight the sleep is droning
Into the motion into the night
Is it the glow that keeps you moving?
Gold gold gold
Burns our ocean
Forced I sold
My devotion
I cannot fight the sleep is droning
Into the motion into the night
Is it the glow that keeps you moving?
Hemiplegia holds me tight
No you can't move up with your eyes down
No you can't look up with your eyes down
No you can't move up with your eyes down
No you can't move up with your eyes down
No you can't move up
I cannot fight the sleep is droning
Into the motion into the night
Is it the glow that keeps you moving?
Hemiplegia holds me tight
I cannot fight the sleep is droning
Into the motion into the night
Is it the glow that keeps you moving?
Hemiplegia holds me tight
No you can't move up with your eyes down
No you can't look up
No you can't move up with your eyes down
At its core, Haerts's "Hemiplegia" is a song about feeling stuck and unable to move forward. The lyrics "Slow slow slow, Wade through water, Numbed the lightness, Words don't bother" paint a picture of someone who is struggling to make progress, with every movement feeling heavy and labored. This sense of inertia is reinforced by the repetition of the chorus, with the lyrics "I cannot fight the sleep is droning, Into the motion into the night" conveying a feeling of being trapped in a cycle of exhaustion and restlessness.
However, there is also a sense of urgency in the song, with the lyrics "Is it the glow that keeps you moving?" suggesting that there is something driving the singer forward, despite their sense of paralysis. The use of the word "hemiplegia" adds another layer of meaning to the song – the term refers to a condition that causes partial or complete paralysis on one side of the body. This sense of physical limitation is echoed in lines like "No you can't move up with your eyes down" and "Forced I sold my devotion," which hint at the pressures that can keep us from moving forward, even when we want to.
Overall, "Hemiplegia" is a powerful depiction of the struggle to break free from inertia and move forward in life. It speaks to those moments when we feel stuck and directionless, but also hints at the potential for change and growth.
