Judgement
Half Moon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You gotta believe me, I'm doing my best
I apologize for all the flack I caught for dropping out
Yeah you kicked up a storm, but the winds have died down
I got a lot of bottles on account of this around

I'm sorry I'm not him
The poet's right hand
The artistic little suffering son-of-a-working-man
You work yourself in, but it spits you right out
Why is it so hard?

I should've run you out of town

If it looks like it is, then it probably ain't
The more than you talk the more my interest goes away
You work yourself in, but it spits you right out
Why is it so hard?

I should've run you out of town

Overall Meaning

In "Judgement" by Half Moon Run, the singer appears to be addressing someone who has caused them trouble and seems to be asking for forgiveness. They apologize for dropping out and causing trouble, possibly suggesting that they failed to achieve a certain goal or meet someone's expectations. The singer imagines that the recipient actually kicked up a fuss in response to their behavior. Perhaps, the recipient of the singer's apology was upset and didn't fully understand the context of the singer's actions. Nevertheless, the singer believes that the winds (i.e. the recipient's anger) have died down, possibly indicating that the recipient has forgiven them.

The second verse seems to suggest that the singer is being compared to the "poet's right hand" or the "artistic little suffering son-of-a-working-man". In other words, someone whose skill and talent were coveted by others. The singer seems to suggest that this comparison was unfair, as they were not cut out for the same sort of life. The singer expands on this by stating that the harder you work, the more likely you are to be "spit out". The meaning of this phrase is unclear it could mean failing to be successful or failing to be popular. The singer ends the song suggesting that they "should've run you out of town", possibly indicating that they regret their interactions with the other person but also feeling unsure of their own position in the situation.
