He came from Toronto; she, from Seattle.
His parents started a radio station; hers were music teachers.
Both had music in their blood, instruments in their hands, and a mind to create.
The mountains led him to the west; a star led her to the north.
In Vancouver they met and schooled—studying music and life.
They found promise.
They found love.
In less than a year they put school on hold, got married, and lived.
With music and purpose guiding them, school called again and to Nashville they went.
He became an audio engineer; she became a songwriter; music stayed central and they continued to create.
Entering the Nashville music scene in 2009, Handsome and Gretyl released their debut EP, Hold On Tight Love, February 2011.
Handsome and Gretyl have created an earthy folk feel crossed with an imaginative jaunt of pop, a sweet and tangy piece of wild berry pie. This duo draws from real life, delivering optimistic though realistic lyrics, seasoned with the chill of snow, the sea breeze, and the hope of tomorrow’s sunrise.
Back To The Love
Handsome and Gretyl Lyrics

Caught in the middle of the rights, the wrongs, the where do we belongs
And then the world was heavy
Why didn't Mama tell me that the devil's songs seem beautiful to hum
And I sung them all
There's nothing nothing nothing nothing nothing new under the sad old sun
How will I ever find my way back to, before the fall apart
Heart is broken and feeling nothing
How will I ever find my way back to, when I was young
And now I'm orphan Annie
Another heart to tally
Do you feel inside
I know you burn inside
I thought that I'd be happy
Why didn't Daddy tell me that the devil's lies wear beautiful disguises
And I wore them all
There's nothing nothing nothing nothing nothing new under the sun, the sky
Will we ever find our way back to, back to the start
Will we ever find our way back to, before the fall apart
Hearts are broken and words mean nothing
Will we ever find our way back to, back to the love we lost
We lost we lost we lost we lost the light again, how can it be
That we run we run we run we run away from the God who never leaves
So we'll learn we'll learn we'll learn we'll learn to live again a new way
When we find we find we find we find the love there for the taking
One by one we'll find our way back to, back to the start
One by one we'll find our way back to, before the fall apart
Hearts are turning, and hope is following
One by one we'll find our way back to, back to the love, the love
The lyrics of Handsome and Gretyl's song Back To The Love are about the struggles of growing up and facing the hard truths of the world. The song begins with the singer feeling caught in between right and wrong, unsure of where they belong in the world. They then sing about how they have been tempted by the devil's songs and lies, feeling lost and broken-hearted. The chorus repeats the question of how they will find their way back to the start, before everything fell apart.
The second verse features another character, Orphan Annie, who may represent the singer feeling alone and abandoned. They wonder why they weren't taught about the disguises of the devil's lies and how they have fallen for them. Again, the chorus repeats the theme of returning to a time when love was present.
The bridge of the song speaks about how they have lost the light and run away from God. They accept the need to learn to live in a new way and find love for the taking.
Overall, the song is a call to return to a place of love and hope, and to undo the damage caused by the lies and temptations of the world.
