Daresay
Harmful Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

i daresay... you're right Small protuberances all over my skin... will show you all the places where my heart has been
I'm supposed to love you more than anything... but exhaustion causes our suffering
I daresay... you're right I couldn't believe your threats were for real... which made me swallow on your bitter pill
You and me another tragedy Expunge the shame of all those things you did and couldn't see
All your lies, all of your beautiful lies... provide our human aftertaste
I'm supposed to love you more than anything... but exhaustion causes our suffering
I daresay... you're right I know you always wanted the best for me I'll find the right words just believe me
You and me another tragedy Expunge the shame of all those things you did and couldn't see
All your lies, all of your beautiful lies... provide our human aftertaste

Don't want the things you're offering me Sometimes you're brave enough to see all kinds of human apathy
Another recipe for hate

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Harmful's song Daresay speak to the complicated nature of love in a toxic relationship. The chorus of "I daresay... you're right" showcases the tension and power struggle between the two individuals. The first verse addresses physical reactions to love, with "small protuberances" (bumps) all over the skin showing where the heart has been. However, love is not enough in this relationship as "exhaustion causes our suffering."

The second verse delves into the dynamic of the relationship, with the singer unable to believe the threats from their partner were real, while also being forced to swallow a bitter pill. The phrase "expunge the shame" highlights the shame and regret felt in the relationship. The repetition of "all your lies" emphasizes the betrayal and mistrust present.

The final verse shows the singer wanting to escape the relationship but also acknowledging that there was love and good intentions present. The line "sometimes you're brave enough to see all kinds of human apathy" shows the daunting task of facing reality and moving on. The final line "another recipe for hate" acknowledges the inevitability of hate and resentment in such a situation.

Overall, the song showcases the complexity of emotions in a toxic relationship and the inner turmoil that results.

Him saying he’ll be filling in is just beautiful, I can’t imagine losing my best friend.

@tgrove1983

I lost mine. I miss her so much. I literally feel like a pet of me gone. So many times I want to pick up the phone, forward a meme, talk shit about someone I don’t like. I learned that the saying blood is thicker than water has been used all wrong. The actual saying is “the blood of the coven is thicker than the water of the womb.” It makes so more sense now.

@brettmueller6211

I hope you never have to, it's beyond words.

not usually a fan of covers but holy fuck dude i dont think ive ever heard someone cover a song and sound almost identical to the original artists/vocalist. this was fucking amazing and i know this is a special song to all of us. Keaton's and Too CLose To Touch's music helped me tremendously and reminded me what its like to feel something emotionally again as i was digging myself deeper and deeper into heroin and fentanyl. RIP Keaton
