Give It All
Harmful Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When I appeared with my great gouts of fear Out of silence she crafted something new to disappear
Oh, what do you do when you just can´t take it?!
We´ve got bigger things to worry about now anything this world has to offer... I'd give it all
Then comes the fury of the lullaby It´s gonna take you away if you cry Oh, what do you do when you just can´t take it?!
I´d give it all to you... yes I do!
The lyrics to Harmful's song "Give It All" are a powerful reflection of someone who is at a critical juncture in their life. From the opening lines of "See the lightning stars melting over my shoes" there is an instant sense of being overwhelmed and struggling to keep one's footing. The singer is haunted by someone they need to get rid of and they feel they have taken more than they could ever give. This sense of being depleted and drained by someone else is a common feeling and the song conveys it with a raw energy. The lines "When I appeared with my great gouts of fear, out of silence she crafted something new to disappear" suggest a history of manipulation and emotional abuse.
The chorus "Oh, what do you do when you just can´t take it?! We´ve got bigger things to worry about now anything this world has to offer... I'd give it all" has a rallying quality to it, as if the singer is mustering their strength to face whatever challenge comes next. They are willing to give everything they have to overcome this obstacle. The song builds to a crescendo of emotion with the line "I´d give it all to you... yes I do!" suggesting that the person they want to get rid of could also be the same person they love and want to sacrifice everything for.
