There's A Small Hotel
Harry Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Somewhere alone with you
It could be oh-so gay, Junior
You need a laugh or two
A certain place I know, Frankie
Where funny people can have fun
That's where the two will go, darling
Before you can count up
There's a small hotel
With a wishing well
I wish that we were there together
There's a (no) bridal suite
One room bright and neat
Complete for us to share together
Looking through the window
You can see a distant steeple
Not a sign of people who wants people?
When the steeple bell says
"Good night, sleep well"
We'll thank the small hotel together
Pretty window curtains made of chance
In a make-believe land
On the wall are several cheerful prints
Of Grant and Grover Cleveland
Look out into the parlor and feast your eyes
On the moose head on the wall
Perhaps you'd like to play the organ
They tune it every other fall
When the steeple bell says
"Good night, sleep well"
We'll thank the small hotel
We'll creep into our little shell
And we will thank the small hotel together
The lyrics of Harry's song "There's A Small Hotel" describe a desire to escape to a quiet and intimate place with someone special. The singer addresses two individuals, Junior and Frankie, suggesting that they both need a break and some laughter in their lives. The song sets the stage for a certain place the singer knows, a small hotel, where funny people can come and enjoy themselves.
The lyrics paint a picture of a cozy and charming hotel, with a wishing well and a bridal suite that would be perfect for the two of them to share. Looking through the window, they can see a distant steeple, emphasizing the peaceful and secluded nature of this place. The mention of "Not a sign of people who wants people?" suggests that this small hotel is a hidden gem, away from the bustling crowds.
The song also mentions the details of the hotel's interior, such as pretty window curtains and cheerful prints of Grant and Grover Cleveland on the wall. The mention of a moose head and an organ in the parlor adds to the quirky and whimsical atmosphere of the hotel. The phrase "creep into our little shell" suggests that once they enter this small hotel, they will create their own private world, away from the outside noise and distractions.
Overall, "There's A Small Hotel" is a delightful and romantic song about finding solace and laughter in a special place with someone you care about. It evokes a sense of escapism and creating a cherished and intimate moment away from the routines of daily life.
