Imagination
Harry Connick Jr. Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It makes a cloudy day sunny
It makes a bee think of honey
Just like I think of you
Imagination is crazy
Your whole perspective gets hazy
It starts you asking a daisy what to do
Have you ever felt a gentle touch
And then a kiss, then and then
You find it`s only your imagination again
Oh well
Imagination is silly
You go around willy-nilly
For example I go around wanting you
Yet I can`t imagine that you want me too
The lyrics to Harry Connick Jr's song Imagination speak of the power and often bewildering nature of our imaginations. The first verse sets the tone with the idea that imagination has the power to turn a cloudy day sunny, just as thoughts of a loved one can brighten our day. The second verse explores the idea that imagination can be crazy and make us question our own perspectives, even causing us to seek advice from a simple flower. The third verse humorously acknowledges the disappointment we sometimes feel when our imagination gets the better of us, conjuring up a gentle touch and a kiss that ultimately turns out to be just a product of our own mind. Finally, the fourth verse sums up the silliness of imagination, causing us to go around hopelessly wanting someone who we may not even imagine wants us back.
Overall, the song highlights both the positive and negative aspects of our imagination. On one hand, it can bring us joy and happiness, but at other times, it can create confusion and disappointment.
