Makes me work all day
Something you got
Makes me bring home all my pay
Something you got
Say you ought to know now
Whoa, whoa, my, my
Whoa, you know I love you so
Something you got
Keep me home every night
Something you got
Makes everythin' all right
Something you got
Say you ought to know now
You ought to know now
Whoa, whoa, my, my
Whoa I love you so
In "Something You Got," Harry Connick Jr. describes how there's an unexplainable something about the love he has for someone that keeps him going every day. There is something about this person that makes him want to work every day to provide for them, something that makes him feel content and happy when they are together. It's the type of love that can't be explained by words or summed up by an action; it's simply something that exists between two people.
The chorus of the song emphasizes this something by repeating the line "something you got" three times in each stanza. The phrasing of the repetition emphasizes the importance of this concept and how it carries the singer through his daily life. The song is an ode to the power of love and the profound effect it can have on a person's life.
In essence, "Something You Got" is a love song that celebrates the unexplainable aspects of relationships that exist between two people. It's a reminder that the power of love can motivate and sustain us even in the most mundane aspects of life.
