Come, they told me pa-rum pum pum pum
Our newborn King to see, pa-rum pum pum pum
Our finest gifts we bring pa-rum pum pum pum
To lay before the King pa-rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum
So to honor Him pa-rum pum pum pum
When we come
Baby Gesu pa-rum pum pum pum
I am a poor boy too, pa-rum pum pum pum
I have no gift to bring pa-rum pum pum pum
That's fit to give our King pa- rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum
Shall I play for you, pa-rum pum pum pum
On my drum?

Mary nodded pa-rum pum pum pum
The Ox and Lamb kept time pa-rum pum pum pum
I played my drum for Him pa-rum pum pum pum
I played my best for Him pa -rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum (pa -rum pum pum pum)

Then He smiled at me pa-rum pum pum pum
Me and my drum

Overall Meaning

The song "Little Drummer Boy" is a Christmas carol that tells the story of a young boy who visits the newborn Jesus in his manger. The boy expresses his desire to honor the King of Kings, but being a poor boy, he has nothing to offer except his talent for playing the drum. He asks Mary for permission to play for the baby, and she nods approvingly. The boy then plays his drum for both Jesus and the animals in the manger, giving his best in tribute to the Lord. The newborn Jesus smiles at him, recognizing that the boy played his drum with the purest intention of worship.

The song is an ode to the humble and selfless nature of true devotion. The lyrics emphasize that one does not need material possessions to honor God, as one's talent, time, and heart are more than enough. The boy's drum symbolizes his soul, and the song implies that anyone can offer what little they have to God in the same spirit of reverence that the boy did with his drum. The song is a reminder that it's not about the value of the gift but the intention behind it, that truly delights God.

Christ came as the savior of animals. That's why he was born around them. So that's very fitting. The Romans removed all his parables saving them and preaching never to eat them. Here are a few of them for you...

By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples if ye have love one to another and shew mercy and love to all creatures of God, especially to those that are weak and oppressed and suffer wrong. For the whole earth is filled with dark places of cruelty, and with pain and sorrow, by the selfishness and ignorance of man.

Christ [Gospel of the Holy Twelve 76:6]

"Verily I say unto you, for this end have I come into the world, that I may put away all blood offerings and the eating of the flesh of the beasts and the birds that are slain by men. In the beginning, God gave to all, the fruits of the trees, and the seeds, and the herbs, for food; but those who loved themselves more than God, or their fellows, corrupted their ways, and brought diseases into their bodies, and filled the earth with lust and violence. Not by shedding innocent blood, therefore, but by living a righteous life, shall ye find the peace of God."

Christ [Gospel of the Holy Twelve, 75:9-11]

"I have set you as the light of the world, and as a city that cannot be hid. But the time cometh when darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people, and the enemies of truth and righteousness shall rule in my Name, and set up a kingdom of this world, and oppress the peoples, and cause the enemy to blaspheme, putting for my doctrines the opinions of men, and teaching in my Name that which I have not taught, and darkening much that I have taught by their traditions."

~ Christ [Gospel of the Holy Twelve 95:3-4]

somewhere, there is a photo of me at age four, in 1967, kneeling in front of our nativity scene playing my toy trumpet for baby Jesus. I wanted to give something to Jesus and to make Him smile. It was the first time I remember feeling the spirit of the Lord so strongly that I cried. Mom and Dad asked me why I was crying, but four-year-olds don't yet have language for, "I felt something way bigger than me and I'm completely overcome!" I still cloud up and rain when I hear this version of this song!

The Mens vocals, the Alto and Soprano angelic voices, the meaning. Loved it as a kid and love it now. Simply gorgeous.

This is the first song I asked my parents to buy. I was 6 or 7 and It was on the radio in the family station wagon. All 8 of us kids became silent. It was the prettiest thing I'd ever heard, My Dad brought it home the next day and It was the best Christmas gift ever!

L.A., mid 1970s, late night on a freeway heading home with dad. Tacky Crown Victoria wagon, me 9 years old in the back seat (no seatbelts) and this song came on the radio. I instantly sat straight up mesmerized by this song. I sat frozen through the whole song almost wanting to weep on how beautiful it was. I dreamt about that song all night and for the rest of my life.
