Infinity
Hatred Surge Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Watch my nails rot
End in the hour glass
Lost in the desert
Lost in the desert
If I could live forever
Time would be irrelevant
Numbers, place holders
Counting your days in this prison
Marching towards death
In perfect rhythm
The lyrics of Infinity by Hatred Surge express the futility of human existence and the relentless march of time towards death. The first two lines of the song metaphorically represent the beginning of life and the slow decay of the human body. The image of an hourglass is used to represent the fleeting nature of life, and how it can easily slip away from us like sand. The repetition of "Lost in the desert" reinforces the idea of being alone and isolated in an endless, barren landscape.
The following lines suggest that the singer has come to terms with their mortality and that they would rather live forever, to escape from the inevitability of death. The idea that time would be irrelevant if one were immortal is an interesting concept because it implies that the concept of time only has relevance given our limitations as human beings. The repetitive counting of days, birthdays and anniversaries only serve as reminders of our time on earth.
The last two lines are a contemplation of the inevitability of death, and how we all march towards it "in perfect rhythm". The metaphor of marching implies a sense of unity and shared experience in our mortality, and how we all must face it eventually.

Such a great song, in a genre that (to me) is full of a shit load of songs that I like the idea of but rarely delivers on a per song basis like this one.

powerviolence is different grindcore in that it's more sludgy. and it has more of a hardcore feel than a metal feel, like grindcore does. that's how i define powerviolence.
