Check out Zach's new band, Popular Culture.
Have Fun Dying, from Tulsa, Oklahoma, started around 2003 and performed as a duo with Zach (guitar/vocals), and Nic (drums). They added Kacie (piano/bass) to the line up before recording their first album, On the Lips, in 2004.
After enjoying success through various internet promotions (#1 track of the day at garageband.com ), radio play (on Tulsa's 104.5 The Edge and Oklahoma City's 94.7 The Buzz), local magazines (on the cover of Urban Tulsa Weekly), nationwide tours and showcases in Los Angeles and at SXSW, drummer Nic was replaced by Adam. Adam accompanied the band for their last E.P. and had the chance to open for grunge heroes, The Meat Puppets, before the band broke up in 2008
Strongly influenced By the Smashing Pumpkins, The Sex Pistols, The Pixies, Nirvana, Spoon, and the Cure, Have Fun Dying released four self promoted albums and one E.P.:
2004: On The Lips
2005: Guillotines for Drama Queens
2006: Fetus Envy
2007: (What's the Story) Purgatory?
2008: The Mesozoic E.P.
All My Friends
Have Fun Dying Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And I love them to the bones
We hang out and play nintendo
And talk on cellular phones
And we don't give two shits about your two cents
Who the fuck are you?
Another nosey asshole without a clue
Cuz we beat the rythm with our bones
And from glass houses we throw stones
And all the other kids are clones for sure
For sure, for sure
All my friends are indians
And I think that's alright
We drink Vodka and smoke tobacco
We smoke it from a peace pipe
And we don't give two shits about your two cents
You can fuck yourself
There's only so much you can learn from a bookshelf
Cuz all my friends are brown and read
Skarecrows and skeletons
Democrats, Republicans for sure
For sure, for sure
The song "All My Friends" by Have Fun Dying tells a story of a group of friends who are outcasts in society but are content with who they are. The lyrics "All my friends are skeletons and I love them to the bones" suggests that the singer's friends are unique, unusual and different from the normal society. They enjoy playing video games, talking on phones and doing things that are considered "childish" by some. The lines "And we don't give two shits about your two cents, Who the fuck are you? Another nosey asshole without a clue" indicate that the group does not care about societal expectations or the opinions of others who do not understand them.
The second verse is about the singer's friends being "Indians" and how they drink vodka and smoke tobacco, traditionally associated with Native American culture. The lines "And we don't give two shits about your two cents, You can fuck yourself, There's only so much you can learn from a bookshelf" suggest that the group does not care about people's preconceived notions about their lifestyle. They believe in learning from practical experiences rather than relying on conventional wisdom or book knowledge. The verses demonstrate the group's defiance, resilience and self-assurance in their identity and choices, despite societal oppression.
