Mileage
Hawk Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It keeps raining
I know my training
You keep your head in the clouds and you drown
The law can fight me
I see the lightning
And I don't give a fuck about no crown
Yeah!
I got real high and then I looked down
And my perspective's all I got to guide me now
This is the first law of motion
Move too fast you can't even hit eject
You fuck around and make a scene of your emotions
You picked a role in it
Get back on set
Act like you can trust your reality
Your friends keep on turning into enemies
I see you like I got telepathy
I just think I got too much
Mileage
And too worn out
To hide it
I sit still and I despise it
I was even raised by a fucking pilot
It keeps raining
It doesn't phase me
If I slow down
I'm gonna fuckin' panic
The people all get crushed when they get too proud
So I don't give a fuck about a crown
These days I represent more than myself, yeah
Feels like the baggage came from someone else
You picked the wrong motherfucker here to overwhelm
Sad and funny, right?
But what's a better way?
You'll misunderstand it anyway
Act like you can trust your reality
Your friends keep on turning into enemies
I see you like I got telepathy
Just think I got too much
Mileage
And too worn out
To hide it
I sit still and I despise it
I was even raised by a fucking pilot
Too much
Mileage
And too worn out
To fight it
I sit still and I despise it
'Cause maybe I'm the opposite of all of it
I used to think it wouldn't matter if I said it
Cause I do not know where I'm headed
I pursued a life of good and just for that I am indebted
I'll still swing on your god if I'm let in
Sad and funny, right?
This shit's the best
Life's just a riddle that was made
For the depressed
And I think I got too much
Mileage
And too worn out
To hide it
I sit still and I despise it
I was even raised by a fucking pilot
Too much
Mileage
And too worn out
To fight it

I sit still and I despise it
'Cause maybe I'm the opposite of all of it

Overall Meaning

In "Mileage," Hawk reflects on the wear and tear he has experienced over his lifetime, both physically and emotionally. The repeated lines "too much mileage and too worn out" serve as a metaphor for how the singer has invested so much of himself into everything he has done that he no longer has the energy to keep going. The song begins with imagery of rain, which suggests an overriding feeling of gloominess, sorrow, or depression. Yet, as the song progresses, the idea of being weighed down by experience turns into a commentary on the role of perception in shaping reality, as Hawk suggests it's possible to see yourself as being "too worn out" when you have actually achieved far more than you give yourself credit for.

Throughout "Mileage," Hawk's lyrics are often cryptic and poetic, making it difficult to extract a clear narrative. In some cases, he uses seemingly contradictory language to create tension and subvert expectations, as when he sings: "I was even raised by a fucking pilot." This line could be interpreted as heartfelt gratitude for the experience the songwriter had as a child, or it could be read as a dismissal of that life and a yearning to be free of it. To Hawk, reality is always shifting, and the perspective from which you view it can drastically alter your perception of what is happening around you. The song ends on a note of existential angst when Hawk admits to feeling lost and unsure of where he is headed, unable to come to terms with the fact that life is inherently unpredictable.

Nah he just does some backing. He doesn't have like a feature or anything like that.

@bwrbassscreams
