At the end of 2016, Hayley celebrated the release of her major-label debut EP CITRINE, which included pop confections "Pretty Girl" and "Palace", by launching her nationwide "One Bad Night Tour". The completely sold-out headline tour saw Hayley performing her new music for her passionate and devoted fans in cities throughout the US. According to Baeble, Hayley "managed to turn a sold out Studio at Webster Hall into an intimate dance party for everyone to feel free in a safe zone."
Following singles including "Sleepover", "Feelings", and "Curious" have been released to accompany her debut studio album Expectations, which was released on March 30, 2018. The album reached the top 20 of the charts in United States, Canada and Australia. She has also created a comic book, with the help of Naomi Franquiz and Marla Vazquez, based on her song "Gravel to Tempo".
Kiyoko was a founding member of The Stunners in 2007. The group supported Justin Bieber's My World Tour, before disbanding in 2011.

I'm no good for this twirl
When finally I wake
I'm out here on my own
Shout out loud, you won't know
Shout out loud, it won't show
I'll never make a sound
Slow and steady stroke
Stubborn, beautiful
Careful as I go
In this wild and wicked world
I go
Take me to the moon
Where I can sleep 'til noon
Living my today
I don't care what you say
I scream and shout, they shun me out
And I'm trying hard to make it count
I get by, I can't deny
I know every single reason why
Slow and steady stroke
Stubborn, beautiful
Careful as I go
In this wild and wicked world
I go
Be careful of what we think we know
Black rivers turn to gold
Keep looking up
To feel the glow
Slow and steady stroke
Stubborn, beautiful
Careful as I go
In this wild and wicked world
I go
Careful as I go
In this wild and wicked world
I go
The lyrics of Hayley Kiyoko's song "Wild Wicked World" speak to feelings of isolation and the struggle to find one's place in a world that can often feel overwhelming and cruel. The opening lines set the tone for the song's melancholy vibe, with the singer acknowledging that time seems to pass them by without making any progress or gaining any ground. The line "I'm out here on my own" emphasizes a sense of loneliness and the daunting feeling of being lost in the world.
The repeated refrain of "slow and steady stroke, stubborn, beautiful, careful as I go," seems to be a mantra for the singer. It suggests a persevering attitude, acknowledging that change doesn't happen overnight, but it also emphasizes the beauty in being stubborn, in not giving up. The line "in this wild and wicked world I go" suggests the singer is aware of the challenges they face but remains determined to move forward.
The final lines of the song offer a glimmer of hope. "Be careful of what we think we know, black rivers turn to gold" suggests that our perceptions of the world and our own experiences can be transformed when we take a closer look. The line "keep looking up to feel the glow" suggests that even when things seem dark, there's always a reason to keep trying, to keep looking for the light.
