Isolation
Heart of a Coward Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
Fractured thoughts twist and consume and devour what little is left of you.
Corrupted, Deceived. Your mask covers what lies underneath
Suffering through self-deprecation.
As the darkness, pulls you under,
Descending you lose control.
To the darkness you surrender,
Tormented, Besieged. A mind that’s riddled with disease.
Crippling under vivid delusions, with no hope of you letting them go,
Living in nothing but pain, a life of isolation,
Detached from the heart and locked in your mind, you’re slowly fading away.
With your last bit of strength reach for the light.
A life lost in isolation.
As the darkness, pulls you under,
Descending you lose control.
To the darkness you surrender,
Know that you’re not in this alone.
The lyrics of "Isolation" by Heart of a Coward delve deep into the inner turmoil and struggles of an individual who is battling with intense emotional and psychological challenges. The opening lines depict the overwhelming burden of inner conflict that the person is carrying, a weight that has become too heavy to bear. The continuous fight against their own thoughts and emotions has left them fractured and consumed, with little of their true self remaining as they are engulfed by darkness. This struggle leads to self-doubt and a sense of self-worth that rapidly diminishes, leading to a state of self-deprecation.
The subsequent lines further explore the theme of being misled and corrupted, with a mask concealing the true feelings and emotions that lie underneath. The person is suffering from the weight of their distorted thoughts and is besieged by a mind that is plagued by illness and torment. The vivid delusions they experience only serve to further cripple them, with the hope of breaking free from these debilitating thoughts seeming to fade away. The pain they endure leads to a life of isolation, where they feel detached from their own heart and locked within their own distressed mind, slowly fading away from reality. Despite this, there is a glimmer of hope as they are encouraged to reach for the light with whatever strength they have left.
The chorus of the song repeatedly emphasizes the drowning sensation of being pulled under by darkness, losing control and ultimately surrendering to its overpowering force. However, amidst the despair, there is a reassurance that the individual is not alone in their struggles, that someone is there to share the burden and offer support. This sense of unity in facing adversity is a beacon of comfort in the midst of the overwhelming darkness that threatens to consume them.
Overall, "Isolation" paints a stark and poignant picture of a person grappling with profound emotional pain, mental distress, and the isolating consequences of their struggles. The lyrics convey a message of solidarity in suffering, resilience in the face of adversity, and the importance of reaching out for help and connection even in the darkest moments. The song captures the raw intensity of inner battles and the desperate yearning for light and relief in the midst of profound isolation.

My gosh that rhythm change for breakdown is so good. Didn't notice that it was synced with the shifted downbeat of a guitar riff when i heard the song for the first several times. So clever writing! That's why you guys are one of the most musical bands in the genre i know. Natural and groovy as fuck! Great work!

When I first heard Khan I said not brutal enough. I thought the first single was alright. Then it grew on me. Second single was amazing. But then the whole album dropped, and there isn’t a bad song on it. I now like Khan’s vocals, kinda have that architects vibe. Regardless he’s also a beast, and the disconnect and an amazing album. I just saw killswitch engage tonight and the whole way to Cleveland from Pittsburgh my playlist was heart of a coward- the disconnect, bleed from within- era, killswitch engage- atonement, and whitechapel- the valley. I jammed HOAC and BFW like 3 times through though haha

Obviously this guy isn’t the same as Jamie in vocals but he has room to improve so give it time. I look forward to hearing more from this guy to see his development, he has great potential. Really liking this song and his cleans are pretty good
