Heaven and Hell were a music collaboration featuring current Black Sabbath members Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler along with former members Ronnie James Dio (RIP) and Vinny Appice. Founding member Iommi decided to name the group Heaven and Hell as the original lineup of Black Sabbath (featuring Butler, Iommi, Bill Ward and Ozzy Osbourne) is still active but on hiatus. [Please note: Tony Iommi owns all rights to the name "Black Sabbath" and as such can do with it as he sees fit. Heaven & Hell came into existence due to the band not wanting to play songs such as Iron Man and Paranoid, which would be expected of them if they toured as Black Sabbath. It has nothing to do with Ozzy Osbourne saying they couldn't use the Sabbath name.] Ward was originally part of the Heaven and Hell line-up, but it was announced on the fan-run Black Sabbath website that he was standing aside for Appice.
The possibility of a reunion of the lineup which created the Black Sabbath album Heaven and Hell in 1980 was first announced on the Spanish site Rafabasa on September 28, 2006; however with Appice in place of Ward the line-up is now that which recorded the 1981 album Mob Rules. Dio had previously announced that he and Iommi had written a new track for a proposed Black Sabbath box set consisting of music from the two periods in which he was present in the band. This set, Black Sabbath: The Dio Years, is a single-CD release featuring three new tracks, 'Shadow Of The Wind', 'The Devil Cried' and 'Ear In The Wall'.
The reunion was officially confirmed by an announcement on Tony Iommi's official website.
None of the new tracks feature keyboards but Scott Warren of Dio is the project's touring keyboardist.
The group did a world tour in 2007, and released a live CD/DVD recorded in New York called Live From Radio City Music Hall
Heaven & Hell's first full-length studio album is called The Devil You Know and was released by Rhino on April 28, 2009. The band embark on another world tour beginning in May 2009.
The band had several festival dates lined up for 2010 despite singer Ronnie James Dio's diagnosis with stomach cancer in December 2009. All of these dates were cancelled in April 2010 due to Dio's ill health, although it was not apparent whether he was suffering from a setback or just hadn't recovered as quickly as everyone had hoped. However, on 16th May 2010 an official announcement from his wife and manager, Wendy Dio, shocked music fans the world over announcing her husband's death from stomach cancer. He was 67 years old.
Atom And Evil
Heaven & Hell Lyrics

Our eyes never in between
Then into the Garden came the Spider
I'm here for you said the Spider to the fly
And when I am through
You can open up your eyes and see
Your world on fire and the liar won't let go
Atom and Evil
One more promise we can tame the Sun
And then we'll shine forever
Someday you can cry for everyone
Who burn when you were clever
Expand your mind we've got a place for you
Just make believe that 1 and 1 are always 2
When into the corner comes the Spider
Just say no!
Atom and Evil
Falling is Easy rising will never be
So we must rise together
Fear of the changes powerful harmony
But then there's no forever
Atom and Evil
Maybe if we cry together
Maybe if we cry as one
The tears that fall could kill the fire
And keep everyone from Atom and Evil
The lyrics of Heaven & Hell's song Atom And Evil start with the phrase "Blue skies once upon a dream, our eyes never in between". The opening lines of the song depict a time of idyllic calm and peace, but the calm is shattered when a "Spider" enters the Garden. The Spider is a metaphor for evil, and its presence signifies that trouble has arrived. The Spider tells the singer that it's here for them, and it will make the world burn. The chorus of the song, "Atom and Evil", serves to warn against the destructive forces of atomic power and evil.
The second verse of the song propagates that the human race is capable of great change and has the power to control even the Sun. It urges listeners to "expand your mind" and "make believe that 1 and 1 are always 2". The Spider continues to lurk in the shadows, waiting for its moment to strike, but the singer is urged to say no to the Spider when it comes into the corner. The final verse is an anthem to unity, strength, and collectivism. The singer sings about how falling is easy, but rising is never to be left alone. The song ends on a hopeful note, with the hope that human unity and tears can put an end to destructive forces like Atom and Evil.
