1. A Heavy Metal group composed of current and former members of Black Sabbath.
2. An electronic group from Contraseña Records who have released the Alive & Kicking (Single).
Heaven and Hell were a music collaboration featuring current Black Sabbath members Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler along with former members Ronnie James Dio (RIP) and Vinny Appice. Founding member Iommi decided to name the group Heaven and Hell as the original lineup of Black Sabbath (featuring Butler, Iommi, Bill Ward and Ozzy Osbourne) is still active but on hiatus. [Please note: Tony Iommi owns all rights to the name "Black Sabbath" and as such can do with it as he sees fit. Heaven & Hell came into existence due to the band not wanting to play songs such as Iron Man and Paranoid, which would be expected of them if they toured as Black Sabbath. It has nothing to do with Ozzy Osbourne saying they couldn't use the Sabbath name.] Ward was originally part of the Heaven and Hell line-up, but it was announced on the fan-run Black Sabbath website that he was standing aside for Appice.
The possibility of a reunion of the lineup which created the Black Sabbath album Heaven and Hell in 1980 was first announced on the Spanish site Rafabasa on September 28, 2006; however with Appice in place of Ward the line-up is now that which recorded the 1981 album Mob Rules. Dio had previously announced that he and Iommi had written a new track for a proposed Black Sabbath box set consisting of music from the two periods in which he was present in the band. This set, Black Sabbath: The Dio Years, is a single-CD release featuring three new tracks, 'Shadow Of The Wind', 'The Devil Cried' and 'Ear In The Wall'.
The reunion was officially confirmed by an announcement on Tony Iommi's official website.
None of the new tracks feature keyboards but Scott Warren of Dio is the project's touring keyboardist.
The group did a world tour in 2007, and released a live CD/DVD recorded in New York called Live From Radio City Music Hall
Heaven & Hell's first full-length studio album is called The Devil You Know and was released by Rhino on April 28, 2009. The band embark on another world tour beginning in May 2009.
The band had several festival dates lined up for 2010 despite singer Ronnie James Dio's diagnosis with stomach cancer in December 2009. All of these dates were cancelled in April 2010 due to Dio's ill health, although it was not apparent whether he was suffering from a setback or just hadn't recovered as quickly as everyone had hoped. However, on 16th May 2010 an official announcement from his wife and manager, Wendy Dio, shocked music fans the world over announcing her husband's death from stomach cancer. He was 67 years old.
Double The Pain
Heaven & Hell Lyrics

Is worth waiting for
Tonight
He's seen enough joy for today.
A sudden attack
Would just start the evening right
And maybe a penance to pay
Thunder and lightning
Electric machines
These are the devils
That shout in his dreams
[Chorus:]
Double the pain
He's strong he will survive
Double the pain
It will make him come alive
Double the pain
Games of the heart
Not fair and you can't win
But torture and anger can play
You've never said no to just another spin
And loosing is one step away
Friendly confusion
Like nothing you've seen
These are the demons
That shout in is dreams
[Chorus]
A slapping the face
To bring him back around
It's a touch-like cool morning rain
He's fallen from grace
And slammed to the ground
And begs for some more of the same
Thunder and lightning
Eccentric machines
These are the devils that shout in his dreams
[Chorus]
Double the pain
I'm sure I saw him smile
Double the pain
Let's kick him for a while
Double the pain
The song "Double The Pain" by Heaven & Hell is about a person who is addicted to pain and struggles with various challenges in life. The song opens with the line "A stab in the back is worth waiting for tonight", which portrays the idea that the character is looking for something painful to happen, as if waiting for it to happen.
The first verse implies that the character has experienced enough joy for the day and that a sudden attack would start the evening right. The second verse explains how the character is fixated on this pain, using the imagery of thunder and lightning and electric machines as the demons that shout in his dreams.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the character's resilience to pain and how he can survive it. The line "Double the pain, it will make him come alive" is particularly interesting because it suggests that the pain itself is a life force for the character. The Games of the heart are not fair and you won't always win them, but torture and anger can play a part in keeping one alive. The final verse talks about slapping in the face to bring him back around, as it's a touch as cool as morning rain. The last line "Let's kick him for a while" shows how this person's addiction to pain has become a cruel obsession.
