His parents were immigrants from Ecuador, but Roberto grew up in the materialistic lifestyle of southern Florida, U.S.A. Pounding bass beats from passing cars, boom boxes bouncing down the block, and late-night parties provided a foundation for Lange’s interest in sound.
Lange has collaborated with visual and sound artist David Ellis to compose a new series of kinetic sound sculptures. These include typewriters that self-type the lyrics to Grand Master Flash's "The Message" (in rhythm to the song, none-the-less), musical owls drawn out of liquor bottles, owl costumes made out of straws, flying musical birds, motion paintings, and trashcans (full of trash) that are actually living drum machines. Lange has also worked with Paul Duncan and Bear in Heaven as well as famed music producer Guillermo Scott Herren to produce Prefuse 73 and Savath and Savalas as an active member and contributor.
Lange's other projects include ROM, Epstein, as well as Helado Negro. Epstein is Lange's “beats and loops” project, a friendly beast born of the MPC sampler. Epstein's wildly prolific output, including a series of digital releases, full-lengths, and a remix album, is a gauzy, sunny kind of dance music that references DJ mixing, summertime block parties, and mellow compositional noise.
Helado Negro began when Lange moved to New York in 2006. The early group concept grew through projects and experiments Roberto would conduct while recording himself and others in his home studio. Loops, computer synthesis, record samples, and live instruments provided the foundation for the first full-length, Awe Owe, a vibrant, shimmering, full-band Latin psyche-funk-folk epic.
After taking time to create a new series of sound sculptures, release a Helado Negro EP, score one film and begin work on another (based around his animation), Lange recently holed up in a cabin in the Connecticut woods to record the follow-up to Awe Owe. Canta Lechuza is the latest incarnation of Helado Negro and its sound may come as a surprise. Gone is the big collaborative group jam of previous work and in its place is Helado-Negro-as-intimate-solo-project. Canta Lechuza feels like the place it was recorded—its vocals and beats and synth lines coming together to craft a warm, buoyant, comforting electronic dance sound, an effortless, personal thing anchored by Lange's warm, earthy, conversational voice. Based around field recordings and live instrumentation fed through computer processing, Canta Lechuza is a thoroughly modern affair.

Call them up if you wanna say
"Hey, I miss the way we used to hug
We used to dance a tiny bit
Just kiss with love, we lasted so long
We knew nothing about this shit"
So who are we to explain this history?
Take care of people today
Call them up if you wanna say
"Hey, I miss the way we used to hug
We used to dance a tiny bit
Just kiss with love, we lasted so long
We knew nothing about this shit"
So who are we to explain this mystery?
So who are we to explain this mystery?
So who are we to explain this history?
So who are we to explain this history?
In the first verse of the song, the lyrics emphasize the importance of taking care of our relationships and reaching out to people we care about. It encourages the listener to pick up the phone and connect with someone, expressing a longing to recapture the intimacy that was once shared. The lyrics mention missing the way they used to hug, dance, and share kisses filled with love. These actions symbolize the depth of connection and affection they once had. The phrase "we lasted so long, we knew nothing about this shit" suggests that they had a long-lasting and robust relationship which now seems distant and unfamiliar due to the challenges they are currently facing.
The repetition of the lines "So who are we to explain this mystery? / So who are we to explain this history?" in each verse reflects a sense of introspection and uncertainty. It highlights the song's theme of questioning one's ability to understand and make sense of the complexities and changes in relationships. It suggests that the reason behind the emotional distance or disconnection between these individuals is still unknown to them. They are grappling with their inability to fully comprehend why things have changed, adding an air of mystery to their predicament.
The chorus reinforces the initial message of the song, emphasizing the importance of reaching out and caring for others. It encourages the listener to take action in nurturing their relationships by reminding them to call people up if they want to express their feelings and reconnect. The repeated lines, "Hey, I miss the way we used to hug / We used to dance a tiny bit / Just kiss with love, we lasted so long / We knew nothing about this shit," serve as a longing for the past, highlighting the desire to rekindle the affection and closeness that once defined their connection.
Overall, "Two Lucky" dives into the complexities of relationships and the longing to restore what has been lost. It acknowledges the mystery and history behind these changes while urging the listener to take proactive steps in reestablishing meaningful connections with others.

This song brings me to tears every time I listen or even think of it.
The idea of calling someone because you miss how they hugged you long ago is the sweetest, saddest thing to pass through my head in awhile.
He's singing to his brother, and this song makes me think of mine.

this song is like staying up all night and you have that ache in your legs so you lay down and you like at the color of your walls at 7 am but you eventually fall asleep because it's so hard to keep your eyes open

Justo el video me recordó las carreteras y sus atardeceres a la salida nostálgica de San Cristóbal. He vivido aquí toda la vida y el despedirse de su frio me recuerda mucho a este álbum. Abrazos

The question "Who is your favourite artist?"/ "Which is you're favourite band?" used to overwhelm me - I couldn't wrap my head around it. There are so many songs close to my heart, it felt limiting to name only one artist. Until a friend of mine played your album.
I listened to you in the backseat of the car and I listened. Soaking up the tunes, the sounds of the notes, the words, the whole. The answer to the question now is very easy for me and justifies the question! :')
