Helen Lyrics

Pay it up
Make it dirty
Got you worked up
Know you hate
That you want me
I I I
Make you run for your money
Know you hate that you want me
I guess I've gotten used to it
You're sick of me but I'm what you worship
How you sick of me when I'm what you worship
Oh just be honest
Upon you is a goddess
You might need a rescue
I'm light but I'm darkness
Tempt if I want
Cause it's always a yes yes
Cause I make you talk talk
Pay it up
Make it dirty
Got you worked up
Know you hate
That you want me
I I I
Make you run for your money
I I I
Know you hate that you want me
You are
falling apart
My name's on
Your tongue it's
Bound to leave a scar
Oh just be honest
Upon you is a goddess
You might need a rescue
I'm light but I'm darkness
Cause I make you talk talk
Pay it up
Make it dirty
Got you worked up
Know you hate
That you want me
I I I
Make you run for your money
I I I
Know you hate that you want me
Call it attitude
Cause I don't want you
Can't seem to take a no
Got your ego bruised
Call it attitude
Cause I don't want you
Can't seem to take a no
Got your ego bruised
Why why
Why I gotta ask
Why
Got your ego bruised
Why I gotta ask
Cause I make you talk talk
Pay it up
Make it dirty
Got you worked up
Know you hate
That you want me
I I I
Make you run for your money
I I I
Know you hate that you want
Cause I make you talk talk
Pay it up
Make it dirty
Got you worked up
Know you hate
That you want me
I I I
Make you run for your money
I I I
Know you hate that you want me
In this song, Helen talks about the power dynamic within a relationship where the subject of the song holds a significant influence over their partner. The repeated line "Cause I make you talk talk, pay it up, make it dirty, got you worked up" could be interpreted as the singer manipulating her partner and getting them to do things they may not want to do. The use of the phrase "pay it up" could imply that the subject of the song is using their power to extract something from their partner, whether it be money or some other form of currency.
The line "You're sick of me but I'm what you worship" highlights the idea that the partner may feel trapped in a cycle of toxicity where they are addicted to the attention they receive from the subject of the song, despite knowing that it is not good for them. The repetition of "I I I make you run for your money, I I I know you hate that you want me" further emphasises this power dynamic, where the singer revels in the control they hold over their partner.
The chorus ends with the line "Make you run for your money, know you hate that you want me", which could be interpreted as the singer challenging their partner to try and resist their influence and proving that they have the upper hand in the relationship. The song ends on a note of defiance as the singer continues to make their partner "talk talk", suggesting that they will continue to hold power over them.
