Helen Forrest Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Any old time you want me
I am yours for the asking darling
Any old time you need me
Ill be their with love that's lasting darling.
All through the years well stand together
Sharing the tears and stormy weather
And the sunshine will be yours and mine
Any old time your blue
You'll have our love to chase away the blues
And any old thing you do ill see you through.
So just remember that I am waiting dear

If ever you want me ill be near,
Any old time and any place you may be.

Overall Meaning

The song Any Old Time by Helen Forrest speaks about a person’s readiness to be there for their loved one anytime and anyplace they may need them. The lyrics convey a sense of loyalty and commitment to a relationship. The singer promises to stand together, share tears and laughter, and face stormy weather while providing a love that's lasting.

The lyrics seem to suggest that the singer is always available to her lover, providing support and understanding whenever they need it. The song references the fact that they will have each other's back through thick and thin, and that the sun will shine bright after every storm. It's a touching sentiment that still resonates with people today, decades after it was first recorded.

Interestingly, this song was not originally recorded by Helen Forrest. It was written by Marty Symes and Oscar Peterson and was first released by Benny Goodman and his Orchestra in 1938. Later, it was recorded by several other artists, including Billie Holiday and Frank Sinatra. However, Helen Forrest's version of the song remains the most popular.

Delightful to hear Helen Forrest after a long while. So clear and reassuring. Artie Shaw is his forever best. Mervyn 691

Reason is that the members of the bands were real musicians, so songs were composed or arranged to allow the instrumentalists to 'shine'. This also allowed the vocalist to get 'settled' and to enter the right swing mood.

I used to hear this music on the radio all the time, I really miss singers that pronounce the words clearly and who sing with good, clear, natural voices.

and there was REAL melody. Not to mention lovely arrangements oh well..

But now all we hear is mumbling and auto-tune, along with lyrics like "Uh, uh, oh yeah...". Truly a waste of talent. What is this world coming to?
