Oernst of Life
Helloween Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Get it next year or better take it today
Don't let the others already come to top
Create security for the time you're out of date
Before you get old at the underground
Soakin' your life away
You must be jokin', is it funny or sad
You must be throwing your life away
Can't bear existence from powered life all day
You'll miserably die in a dead end street
Soakin' your life away
I got an amp and a guitar-
I'm gonna scratch the stars
Important things in life I'd never sell
Got the world and I got you
Nothing more to do
But future is a thing that I can't tell
The lyrics of "Oernst of Life" by Helloween depict the struggles of youth in trying to establish themselves in society while also trying to pursue their dreams. The song is primarily about the dangers of living a stagnant life and not taking chances, even if it means risking security. The song encourages the listener to find a job to secure their future but also warns them not to let others surpass them in the process. The lyrics specifically focus on those who choose to pursue their passion rather than working in a rigid environment that ultimately sucks the life out of them.
Throughout the song, there's a sense of rebellion and defiance against societal norms. The lyrics quote, "Some pretty nice boys say you must be mad / You must be joking, is it funny or sad." This line is a testament to the skepticism that people face when they decide to opt for an unorthodox career path or live life against the norm. The lyrics project a sense of empowerment, urging the youth not to abandon their dreams in the face of criticism.
Additionally, the song portrays the importance of living life without regrets. The line, "Got the world and I got you, nothing more to do, but the future is a thing that I can't tell" conveys a concern for the future but also a sense of contentment in living in the present. In conclusion, "Oernst of Life" is a powerful and thought-provoking song, inspiring listeners to remain true to their dreams and pursue them without fear.

Una canción desconocida para muchos salvo para los qué somos fans... posiblemente sea la canción que anunciaba lo que vendría. Los jóvenes músicos imponiendo velocidad y armonía... Rebeldía en estado puro para dejar una marca en el mundo de la música. Larga vida a Helloween!!!

Thank you so much! 🤘🏻
Only two things: are you sure about "sulking" and that "nothing more to lose" it s not "nothing more to do"?

I know them since 1985. Grew up with the EP and Walls of Jericho. But never heard this one! I`m so happy to found it! Is there more unreleased shit from the Kai Hansen Era?

@AndE667 thank you but unfortunately I think there's not on youtube

@Heavy Metal Bricks Desire To Rock? I had it on a bootleg. It was a bonus track on a recording from Stockholm '88.
Heavy Metal Bricks
@AndE667 where can I listen to this?
AndE667
This one along with Metal Invaders WAS the first songs released from the band. So technically it's not unreleased. But, rather than just splitting hairs, to answer your question: There is a song called Desire to Rock, which was at least on an ancient bootleg. AND, according to metal-archives, some later songs like Save Us and parts of Heading for Tomorrow also originate from this era.
