Old New Bycicle
Helvetia Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You don't know you don't know
What it is so is so
So is so it's coming low
It's coming low sounds say, Will you come
It's a dead end and no bicycle
Old new we all know
We all know where you live
How you live it's so far from but
Shit as broke take it sound
Dances it's all been done

This one-way street
That doesn't allow bicycles oh no

Overall Meaning

In the song "Old New Bicycle" by Helvetia, the lyrics delve into a sense of unawareness and uncertainty. The opening lines, "You don't know you don't know, What it is so is so," suggests a lack of understanding or knowledge about a certain situation or concept. The repetition of "so is so" amplifies the confusion and uncertainty in the singer's mind.

The line "It's a dead end and no bicycle" could symbolize a metaphorical dead end or a situation where progress or movement is restricted. The mention of an old new bicycle hints at the juxtaposition of the past and present, possibly representing the inability to move forward or make progress due to outdated methods or mindset.

The lyrics also touch upon the contrast between the perceived reality and the singer's perspective: "We all know where you live, How you live it's so far from but." This suggests that the singer is aware of someone's circumstances or lifestyle, but feels disconnected or distant from it. The phrase "shit as broke take it sound" could imply frustration or dismay with the current state of affairs.

The final lines mention a one-way street that doesn't allow bicycles, which could symbolize a pre-determined path or a restriction on personal choices and freedom. Overall, the lyrics of "Old New Bicycle" evoke a sense of confusion, frustration, and a longing for progress or change in a constrained environment.

It took me three months but I found them:
You don't know
You don't know
What it is
So is so
So is so
It's coming low

Sounds say, Will you come
It's a dead end
And no bicycle
Old new
We all know
We all know
Where you live
How you live
It's so far from but
Shit as broke
Take it sound
Report a problem

It was 2010. I was 18 and homeless in Orange, CA. I had a Schwinn Continental 10 speed road bike, some clothes, and a Polaroid camera. I had an older friend named Manny Lopez. He lived in an apartment and I was crashing on his couch. He had one of the first Google smart phones and was always streaming music. This song came on and we both were instantly obsessed. Neither of us had heard of Helvetia. This song will forever be a favorite. Thank you Helvetia.

I saw these guys live and I thought the set was lacking, I had never heard them before, now Im listening to this like holy shit this is wonderful. They didnt play anything groovin like this

@cwingwvwc

They were pretty damned amazing when I saw them with Built To Spill a few months ago. Agreed, they didn't play anything like this. But Albertini can certainly wail on a guitar which he definitely did.
