Catch the Wind
High Highs Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
something has changed
the rest set sail
fire will you cover me
will it be too late
if we catch the wind
go break the mold
go where you are free
alone i saw
i fall in alone
love where will you lead?
when we're alone.
the morning brighter still
you give me peace
you bring me peace
i know that you feel insane
will it break your heart
if u hear it on the wind
hey you're not alone
go break the mold
go where you are free
alone i saw
i fall in alone
love where will you lead
we're alone.
The first stanza of High Highs’ song “Catch the Wind” suggests a feeling of distance and change. The singer can feel someone they care about moving away; however, they’re not sure what's causing the change. This sense of distance is emphasized by the phrase "something has changed, the rest set sail" which can be interpreted to mean that other people are moving on with their lives, leaving the singer feeling isolated. The next section of the song begins with a plea to be protected and saved, where the singer wants to know if their loved one will cover them with the safety and security that they desire. The question “Will it be too late, if we catch the wind?” suggests a feeling of urgency, a sense of needing to act before it’s too late.
The chorus contains the most positive and empowering lyrics, “Hey you're not alone, go break the mold, go where you are free.” The chorus encourages the listener to take control of their life and be brave enough to pursue their own path. In the third stanza, the singer acknowledges that sometimes we all feel alone, but there’s still a sense of hope and peace. The singer finds solace in the person they care for and suggests that they bring peace and light to their life. The fourth and final stanza repeats the singer’s thoughts of feeling alone, but there’s an unresolved question about love, and where it will lead.
