The band is notably influenced both by 90s post-grunge as well as by 80s dirty hard rock and glam metal, with several critics noting their debt to Guns n' Roses. Cut to almost five years later after Winkler met the guys, and Hinder built a healthy regional following. They released an independent album, titled 'Far From Close', which sold out several thousands of copies. The band was the object of an honest-to-goodness bidding war between three different major labels that resulted in its major label debut, titled 'Extreme Behavior', coming out to much commercial success in 2005.
True to the group's origins in Austin Winkler's cover band, Hinder has released several covers of songs that have inspired the band. Examples include "Bed of Roses" (by Bon Jovi), "Born to be Wild" (by Steppenwolf), "Take Me Home Tonight" (by Eddie Money), and "Thunderstruck" (by AC/DC). Their debut album included the huge hit (and perhaps their best known original song) "Lips Of An Angel", and said album has been triple-platinum certified by the RIAA.
Although receiving mixed to negative critical reviews for 'Extreme Behavior', setting up a pattern for them as being critical whipping boys, "Lips of an Angel" was a rock smash. It topped both the Top 40 Pop Radio Chart and the Digital Download Chart, also putting the group on the top of multiple radio, video and digital charts including Yahoo, iTunes, and MSN. Facing near impossible expectations put on them, with rambunctious live performances stoking the flames, Hinder's sophomore album, 'Take It To The Limit', proved somewhat of a commercial disappointment by comparison. However, the group still moved hundreds of thousands of records and featured a strong glam metal-esque sound that many fans loved.
The band was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in 2007. After the release of 'Take It To The Limit' in 2008 and 'All American Nightmare' in 2010, though, issues between frontman Winkler and the rest of the band had taken their toll. Finally, on November 20, 2013, it was announced via Loudwire that the band had parted ways with Winkler, the statement saying that there was no animosity towards him but that they just felt it was time to move on. The former Hinder singer has had struggles placing him in rehab before. Saving Abel’s Jared Weeks has often played with the re-jiggered group, and their future is somewhat uncertain though with more studio material promised as of early 2015 (with ex-producer Marshal Dutton being their current singer).

Shoulda
Hinder Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
All I could hear
Was the dial tone ring in my ear
If I could go back in time
I'd say those three words
[Chorus:]
I shoulda, woulda, coulda said it back to you
You hung up and left me for dead on the ground
You didn't even say goodbye
I shoulda, woulda, coulda said it back to you
Shoulda, woulda, coulda said it back to you
Now that you're gone
I'm wasting away
The life has been siphoned right out of my veins
If I could go back in time
I'd say those three words
[Chorus]
When you said those three words, I kinda freaked out
When you said them first, my jaw hit the ground
Shoulda, woulda, coulda said it back to you
Shoulda, woulda, coulda said it back to you
And this can't be saved if you can't be found
You hung up and left me for dead on the ground
You didn't even say goodbye
And this can't be saved
(And this can't be saved)
If you can't be found
(If you can't be found)
And this can't be saved
I shoulda, woulda, coulda said it back to you
Shoulda, woulda, coulda said it back to you
The lyrics of Hinder's song 'Shoulda' are about the regret of not expressing love and feeling of being left behind. The song is about a person who didn't express their feelings when they had the chance and now they regret it. The first verse talks about how the singer is left with just the dial tone after failing to express their love to the person they are talking to. These words were left unsaid, and the singer wishes they could go back in time and say them.
In the second verse, the singer talks about how they are now feeling lost and hollow after the other person has gone away. They feel like their life force has been drained out because they didn't express their love. The chorus of the song repeats the words 'Shoulda, woulda, coulda' and highlights the regret of the singer. They feel like they could have saved the situation if they had only expressed their love when they had the chance.
In the bridge of the song, the singer admits that they were too surprised when the other person expressed their love first, and they didn't know how to respond. The song ends with the repeating of the chorus, emphasizing the regret of the singer for not expressing their love to the other person.

Before I hung up the phone
Right before I ended the call
All I could hear
The only sound that remained audible
Was the dial tone ring in my ear
Was the sound made by the phone indicating that the other person has hung up
If I could go back in time
If I could turn back the clock
I'd say those three words
I would confess my love
Shoulda, woulda, coulda said it back to you
I regret not being able to express my feelings
And this can't be saved if you can't be found
Our relationship cannot be repaired if we are no longer in contact
You hung up and left me for dead on the ground
You ended the call abruptly, leaving me feeling hurt and lost
You didn't even say goodbye
You didn't even bother to give a farewell
Now that you're gone
Now that you are no longer with me
I'm wasting away
I am losing myself
The life has been siphoned right out of my veins
All the energy has been drained from me
When you said those three words, I kinda freaked out
When you expressed your love, I was overwhelmed with emotions
When you said them first, my jaw hit the ground
When you confessed love first, I was astonished
And this can't be saved
Our relationship cannot be repaired
(And this can't be saved)
(Our relationship cannot be mended)
If you can't be found
If we are not in contact
I shoulda, woulda, coulda said it back to you
I regret not expressing my love back to you
Shoulda, woulda, coulda said it back to you
I wish I had expressed my love back to you

Hinder is like Shinedown, music not the same but their music is addictive and can't get enough of them. Awesome bands!
@utressen

@HannahsMoviesAndMusic
My friend sings the chorus all the time (she usually just randomly sings song lyrics without naming the artist or anything), and it wasn't until today that I found out this was Hinder. I've never heard a bad song by them.

My ex girlfriend left me unexpectedly and she said "I wish you hadn't loved me" and then i said "I love you no matter what" I was listening to this album at the time. I miss her, I miss her personality, her smile, her lips, her laugh, her everything. I want her back. She was my world.
