Leo
Holiday Sidewinder Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't remember his name
But I've got the keys to his house.
He slipped them into my tights
Just before we got kicked out.
After the show I was feeling so low,
Ordered two more mojitos.
On the rebound
The first face that I found
Laid me down like Romeo.

Leo, Rodrigo, live in the moment then let it go.
Marco, Diego, I'll give you tonight but I won't call you tomorrow.

And when the sun is rising up
I get my things and run
And if I wrote my number wrong,
Life goes on, just move on, just move on

I don't remember his face
But I remember when I came.
He spoke the language of love,
No there's no need to mansplain
Lock up your husbands and lock up your sons,
Tell the girls I'm coming around.
I get my kicks, learn some new fancy tricks
Let them know what I'm about.

Tito, D'angelo,
Live in the moment then let it go.
Nico, Antonio, I'll give you tonight
But I won't call you tomorrow.

And when the sun is rising up
I get my things and run
And if I wrote my number wrong,
Life goes on, just move on, just move on

And when the birds begin to sing,
I get my things and leave.
And if I wrote my number wrong,
Life goes on, just move on, just move on

And when the sun is rising up
I get my things and run
And if I wrote my number wrong,
Life goes on, just move on, just move on

And when the birds begin to sing,
I get my things and leave.

And if I wrote my number wrong,
Life goes on, just move on, just move on

Overall Meaning

The song "Leo" by Holiday Sidewinder is a catchy and upbeat track about a woman who lives her life in the moment, not looking for anything serious. The opening lines set the tone - the singer doesn't even remember the name of the man whose house she has the keys to. She met him after a show and drowned her sorrows with two mojitos. The first person she encountered after that was the one who took her to bed. The chorus then names various other men she's been with before, but emphasizes that they shouldn't expect her to stick around. She encouragingly tells them to live in the moment and then let it go.

The second verse continues to accentuate her carefree lifestyle. She doesn't recall the face of the one who pleasured her, but extols his ability to "speak the language of love" without being patronizing. She then urges women to tell others that she is coming, and that she is not looking for anything long-term. The rest of the song reiterates the chorus, mentioning more names of men who have come and gone, and the singer's desire to leave before the sun rises or the birds start chirping. The last line points out that if she wrote the wrong phone number, that's alright, life goes on, just move on.

Overall, the song seems to affirm the idea that it's okay to live for the moment and not have any attachments. The singer seems to be happy being with whoever she wants, and emphasizes that it's important not to expect anything beyond that.

Long post alert! This is a brilliant, well-crafted song and I want Leo to drop a response track to this! :D And the video... I can see the 'use' of these male models follows the likes of sex posi Nicki Minaj (see 'Superbass', 'Side to Side' etc. etc.) and Charli XCX's thirst anthem 'Boys' (flipping the script on the likes of Robert Palmer and Calvin Harris) but one can't help read the lyrics as prescriptive "live in the moment then let it go", "just move on" as kind of trash (unless Leo is harassing her... or just being a general creep, which isn't detailed in the lyrics, this is preachy). There has never been a time where I have had intimate relations with a woman and had no intention of ever seeing them again, though the same can't be the same for others (I'm older than Holiday and she isn't one of them FYI but it does touch a nerve).

I understand that other people can be the polar opposite (never wanting to see any of the people they have sex with again) but it is cruel and unusual to provide an anthem for those who essentially discard others for their own pleasure. There is some duty of care here, just some obligation in being a decent human... Sure, 'Leo' should have thought about that beforehand but unless Holiday made it clear to him that this was a one night deal this is feeling-shaming! and I'm very triggered! D:

I don't want to bring gender into this as well but for those who may be starved of physical (or any form) of affection the equation is a bit simpler if you can simply 'find another' (and "Just move on" - a concept which has never sat right with me, though finding another isn't necessary it does provide another to channel feelings of love and devotion towards) holding other physical, economic traits equal finding a woman to have sex with is much more difficult for a cis-guy than vice versa (which is even reflected in average porn pay per scene and demand for female talent). But if you dare mention 'female sexual privilege' you can get cast into the bucket of butthurt, deplorable incels, so meh. I also really dispute the whole 'plenty of fish in the sea', disposable/replaceable mentality many people seem to wear these days. So even if I had the same 'liberated agency' as Ms Sidewinder here I doubt I would go cavorting about thinking I could 'just find another' (an idea which is repugnant to me for what it implies) but to each their own.

I had fifteen minutes to kill so thought I would voice my thoughts a lil'

Enjoy your life, try not to hurt others...

Nice song and a well-shot clip :)

@Erockarmy

I mean it’s not an accomplishment for women to get laid that’s why it’s cringe for a woman to be “proud” of her body count

@nic00001

@@Erockarmy do you feel that way when men make the same exact song over and over or is it just women that bother you?
