Your Song
Holy Mother Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
This feeling inside
I'm not one of those
Who can easily hide
I ain't got much money
But, girl, if I did
I'd buy a big house
Where we both could live
If I was a sculptor
But then again, no
Or a man who makes potions
In a traveling show
I, I know it ain't much
But it's the best I can do
My gift is my song
And this one's for you
And you can tell everybody
That this is your song
It may be quite simple
But now that it's done
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind
That I put down in words
How wonderful life is
While you're in the world
I sat on the roof
And kicked off the moss
Well, a few of the verses
They've got me quite cross
And the sun seemed quite nice
While I wrote this song
It's for people like you
That keep it turned on
So excuse me forgetting
But these things I do
You see, I've forgotten
If they're green or they're blue
Anyway, the thing is
What I really mean
Your's are the sweetest eyes
I've ever seen
And you can tell everybody
That this is your song
It may be quite simple
But now that it's done
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind
What I put down in words
How wonderful life is
While you're in the world
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind
What I put down in words
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind
You can tell everybody
How wonderful life is
While you're in the world
The song "Your Song" by Holy Mother is a beautiful tribute to the love that the singer has for someone else. The song opens with the singer admitting that there's a feeling inside that they cannot seem to hide. The singer goes on to sing about not having much money but dreaming of buying a big house where both the singer and their lover can live. It's a simple dream, but it's clear that the love the singer has for their lover is grand.
The next verse of the song opens with the singer diving deep into their imagination. They imagine themselves as a sculptor or a man who makes potions for a traveling show. While they know that they are not either of those people, they know that their gift is their song, and they sing their heart out for the person they love. The chorus is a tribute to the love between the singer and their lover, and the singer encourages their lover to tell everyone that this song is for them. They hope that their lover doesn't mind that the singer has put what they feel into words.
In the final verse, the singer sings about their process of writing the song. They sat on the roof, kicked off the moss, and allowed the sun to warm them while they wrote the song. The singer admits to forgetting some things like whether the object of their affection's eyes are blue or green. But they know that their lover's eyes are the sweetest eyes they have ever seen. The song ends with the singer once again hoping that their lover doesn't mind what they have put down in words and that they can tell everybody how wonderful life is while they are in the world.
Line by Line Meaning
It's a little bit funny
I'm experiencing a peculiar feeling
This feeling inside
This emotion deep within me
I'm not one of those
I'm not somebody who
Who can easily hide
Can conceal their true self
I ain't got much money
I don't have a lot of wealth
But, girl, if I did
But if I did have some money
I'd buy a big house
I'd purchase a large home
Where we both could live
Where we could reside together
If I was a sculptor
In the scenario where I were a sculptor
But then again, no
But in fact, I am not
Or a man who makes potions
If I were a potion maker
In a traveling show
Whose craft is exhibited while wandering
I, I know it ain't much
I am aware that it isn't grand
But it's the best I can do
But it is my utmost capacity
My gift is my song
What I have to offer is my musical creation
And this one's for you
And this particular piece is dedicated to you
And you can tell everybody
You can share with anyone
That this is your song
That this is a piece dedicated to you
It may be quite simple
This song may be rather basic
But now that it's done
Now that it is completed
I hope you don't mind
I anticipate that you won't be bothered
I hope you don't mind
I hope you won't be unsettled
That I put down in words
That I have expressed in writing
How wonderful life is
The magnificence of life
While you're in the world
While you coexist within it
I sat on the roof
I perched on the rooftop
And kicked off the moss
Brushed off the growth
Well, a few of the verses
Actually, a portion of the lyrics
They've got me quite cross
Have caused me to become somewhat agitated
And the sun seemed quite nice
By contrast, the sun appeared pleasant
While I wrote this song
As I was crafting this musical piece
It's for people like you
This song is intended for individuals akin to you
That keep it turned on
Who keep the music playing
So excuse me forgetting
Kindly overlook my forgetfulness
But these things I do
Regarding the absentminded activities I commit
You see, I've forgotten
I have lost recollection of
If they're green or they're blue
Specifically, the color of your eyes whether green or blue
Anyway, the thing is
Despite this detail, the matter at hand is
What I really mean
The true essence of what I am conveying
Your's are the sweetest eyes
Your eyes epitomize tenderness
I've ever seen
That I have ever laid eyes on
And you can tell everybody
You have permission to share with everyone
That this is your song
That this musical creation belongs to you
It may be quite simple
This song may be plain
But now that it's done
Nevertheless, now that it is complete
I hope you don't mind
I hope that you're not offended
I hope you don't mind
I hope that you are not bothered by this action
What I put down in words
What I have expressed on paper
How wonderful life is
How incredible this existence can be
While you're in the world
As long as you coexist within it
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't have an issue with
I hope you don't mind
I trust you aren't upset by
What I put down in words
What I have written
I hope you don't mind
I hope you aren't displeased with
You can tell everybody
Feel free to disclose to anyone
How wonderful life is
How magnificent life can be
While you're in the world
As long as you coexist within it

Never thought I would see Pavorotti and Clapton on stage together. This is an amazing and powerful performance.
@kendavies945
Agreed, shame the lyrics are such crap. They should have chosen a better song. That would have been so easy.

的确如此!
@patsytate426
I agree 👍

@Ken Davies I don’t know why you and Patsy Tate (who gave your comment a 👍 a month ago) think the lyrics are such ‘crap’?! I, and many others, think they are beautiful, as well as the performance! I believe (and hope others agree with me) that you are the minority of listeners with YOUR crappy viewpoint, and I can only say you don’t deserve to even listen or comment on it!
@elainemeyer5062
@Ken Davies I wrote a comment about yours about 1 1/2 weeks ago, but I want to add one more. It doesn’t matter what religion you are - you could be an atheist or agnostic for that matter. The lyrics are beautiful, and just bc it’s called and makes reference to the ‘Holy Mother’, shouldn’t cause you to be biased - their meaning has such depth. What kind of person are you and the others who share your thoughts about this song’s words make you feel like you do? Have you no belief in anything?! If that’s the case, I don’t feel sorry for you - instead I pity you for being so shallow.

I am in the choir .It was such an honour.

Thank you! Your choir, added so much to this performance. Your choir sounded heavenly!!
@maryann7619
I don't know if you could see it, but Mr. Pavarotti was grinning like a schoolboy when the 3 of you (EC, him, and your choir) were singing together towards the end. Well done. 👏 👏 👏

Wonderful choir!
