Boy You're Gonna Hurt Someone
Hot Water Music Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Boy, you're gonna hurt someone.
Boy, you're gonna hurt someone.
Boy, you're gonna hurt someone.
Boy, you're gonna hurt someone.

Everybody call your number.
Everybody hunt for you.
Everybody getting closer.
No one ever wanted to.

Life's getting strange.
Flying backwards to the cage.

Everybody getting closer.
Everybody hunt for you.
Everybody moving faster.
Everybody learn from you.
Gonna have to run like you've never run.
Gonna have to fly or they'll find you.
Gonna have to come down like everyone.
Gonna have to fly or they'll find you.

Life's getting strange.
Flying backwards to the cage.

Overall Meaning

The song, "Boy You're Gonna Hurt Someone" by Hot Water Music is a plea to someone who is on the path of causing harm to people. The chorus repeats the same line, "Boy, you're gonna hurt someone," emphasising that the person's actions are not just hurting one particular individual but will inevitably affect others as well. The song starts with a warning to the person, stating that everyone is after them, and they must run if they don't want to face the consequences. However, the lyrics also suggest that the singer is aware that running away is not a permanent solution but is a way to buy time, and eventually, they will have to confront the issue.

The chorus' repetition strengthens the idea that the person's actions are a danger to society as a whole, and everyone is worried about their potential. The lyrics "Everybody moving faster. Everybody learn from you" indicate that the person's actions are setting a bad example, and people are learning from them. The verse's lines, "Life's getting strange. Flying backwards to the cage," suggest that the singer is getting caught up in a vicious cycle of harmful behaviour that is leading them down a dangerous path. The repeated line, "Everyone getting closer" has two meanings, one being that the danger is drawing closer to the singer, and secondly, the implication that everyone is becoming more similar to the person's negative traits.

Hot Water Music's song is not just a warning to the singer; rather, it's an observation about the consequences of our choices and how they can have a ripple effect on those around us. The chorus and verses show that this harmful behaviour is not limited to one person; it's a societal problem that needs to be addressed. The song's lyrics are not in any way aggressive, but rather a gentle nudge towards self-reflection and being responsible for one's actions.

All agree with you for the most part. Yeah, Rise has been known for the more hardcore stuff. But how I see it, is Rise is going to make a huge uprising soon with what they're doing with the label. They want their fans to be more open to various types of music. This might sound mainstream to you, because most bands that sound like this ARE mainstream, but maybe Rise is trying to give the sound some respect back? I think Rise is the only label capable of doing that.

MetroArtyom2033

I think it's pretty good,Almost everything is mainstream these days,Doesn't mean it's not good. You just have to get used to it.That's how it is now.

Hunter Cucchiaro

I feel the same way too haha. When ever rap gets put on, im like no god no please haha in my head of course.

I don't know if it's Rise trying to give the sound some respect because any record label can be capable of doing that if they want, but they don't wanna make big risks like that, but obviously Rise does. It's not a bad thing to me that they wanna change some things, Im just not into the same Rise that I was into a couple years back when they still had heavy bands here.I dont really know what Rise does, but im sure there doing it for a reason, I still dig the record label, just not as much.

Tamarco Mahalay
