From a first single in 1979, the group successfully combined a pop rock and power pop (and sometimes, a blues rock) influenced backing with harmony side-vocals and Lewis' strident voice, and the band had numerous hit songs during the 1980s and early 1990s. These include "The Power of Love" and "Back in Time" (both of which were featured in the film "Back to the Future"), "I Want a New Drug", "Doin' It All (For My Baby)", "Do You Believe in Love?" "Hip to Be Square", "Stuck With You", and "Jacob's Ladder". Huey Lewis shared three Grammy awards, an American Music Award, and a People's Choice Award along with several artists for his role singing the 1985 charity song "We Are the World" as well.

Finally Found a Home
Huey Lewis & The News Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
People always asking me
What will you be when you grow up
You're gonna need security
Spent a little time in school
Wishing I was somewhere else
Having fun and acting cool
I just want to be myself
And I finally found a home
Where I'll never be alone
Right here where I belong
And I finally found a home
Here, in a song
Thought I'd finally found the one
Together we would always be
Funny how things come undone
Love's not what it's supposed to be
Now everybody needs a place
Even if it's on a stage
Everybody needs a race
Something to help them turn the page
And I finally found a home
Where I'll never be alone
Right here where I belong
And I finally found a home
Here, in a song
It used to make me so fed up
People always asking me
What are you now that you've grown up
Exactly what I want to be
And I finally found a home
Where I'll never be alone
Right here where I belong
And I finally found a home
And I finally found a home
I ain't goin' nowhere
And I finally found a home
If you want be I'll be here
And I finally found a home
And I finally found a home
Here in a song
And I finally foudn a home
And I finally found a home
And I finally found a home
The lyrics of "Finally Found a Home" by Huey Lewis & The News express the journey of finding one's purpose and sense of belonging. The singer begins by talking about how people always ask about their future plans and the need for security in life. However, they spend their time in school daydreaming and yearning for something more. The singer just wants to be true to themselves and not succumb to societal expectations. Yet, they feel lost and aloneβuntil they find a place where they feel they belong.
The "home" mentioned in the song is not a physical place but rather a state of being. It's about finding a sense of purpose and acceptance of oneself. The singer notes the disillusionment they faced with an idealized romantic relationship, emphasizing the need for everyone to find their own "place" or "race" to move forward in life. The ultimate realization is that the singer has finally found their "home" where they can be themselves and never be alone by doing something they love.
Overall, the song conveys a message of self-discovery and the importance of finding one's passion and sense of belonging. The idea of "home" is an emotional concept, and this song shows how it can come in different forms wherein the metaphorical "home" is ultimately found within oneself.
