From a first single in 1979, the group successfully combined a pop rock and power pop (and sometimes, a blues rock) influenced backing with harmony side-vocals and Lewis' strident voice, and the band had numerous hit songs during the 1980s and early 1990s. These include "The Power of Love" and "Back in Time" (both of which were featured in the film "Back to the Future"), "I Want a New Drug", "Doin' It All (For My Baby)", "Do You Believe in Love?" "Hip to Be Square", "Stuck With You", and "Jacob's Ladder". Huey Lewis shared three Grammy awards, an American Music Award, and a People's Choice Award along with several artists for his role singing the 1985 charity song "We Are the World" as well.

Tell Me a Little Lie
Huey Lewis & The News Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Just a little lie to remember you by.
Please don't tell me, that you're sorry.
Tell me I was the one and only
It doesn't matter if you mean it
I'll keep a little lie between us.
Just a little lie to remember you by.
Just a little lie to remember you by.
Just a little one to believe in
Tell me that you never leavin'
We may never, be together
But your little lie will last me forever
Ooh, tell me one.
Just a little one to believe in
Tell me that you never leavin'
We may never be together
But your little lie will last me forever
Ooh, tell me another one.
Tell me a little lie
Tell me a little one
Tell me a little white lie to remember you by.
Tell me a little one
Tell me a little another
The lyrics to Huey Lewis & The News's song Tell Me a Little Lie explore the idea of wanting someone to tell you something that isn't true, but will make you feel better. It's about the desire to hold onto a memory of someone, even if it's based on a falsehood. The singer asks his former lover to tell him a little lie to remember them by, and to not apologize for the breakup. He wants to believe that he was their one and only, even if it's not true. He's willing to hold onto this lie, even if they may never be together again.
The song captures the emotional turmoil of a broken heart and the desperation to hold onto something positive from the relationship, even if it's not real. It's a bittersweet song that acknowledges the pain of loss, while also demonstrating the power of hope and denial. The chorus repeats the plea for a little lie to believe in, emphasizing the importance of keeping the memory of the relationship alive, even if it's based on a fabrication.
