Vértigo
Hundredth Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Escape
Just to get away
Too late
Butcher meets the blade
Panic
On the menu
Elevate
But the vantage point is a blurred view
It's a blurred view

Blackout
Spinning all around
You lost it in the high
But I know
You'll find it on the comedown

Illuminate
The flawed perception
Recreate
The same scene
The same reflection
The same reflection

Blackout
Spinning all around
You lost it in the high
But I know
You'll find it on the comedown
Find it on the comedown
Find it on the comedown

But I don't wanna come down
But I don't wanna come down

Escape
Just to get away
Too late
Butcher meets the blade
Panic
On the menu
Elevate
But the vantage point is a blurred view

Blackout
Spinning all around
You lost it in the high
But I know

You'll find it on the comedown
Find it on the comedown

Overall Meaning

The song "Vertigo" by Hundredth is about chasing a high or escaping reality through drugs, but realizing that it ultimately leads to a distorted view of the world and a loss of control. The lyrics describe the experience of being caught up in the moment and losing oneself in the high ("spinning all around") but also feeling the anxiety and panic that come with it ("butcher meets the blade, panic on the menu").

The idea of a "blurred view" reflects the disorienting effect of drugs on one's perception of reality. The line "illuminate the flawed perception, recreate the same scene, the same reflection" suggests that the singer is aware that their escape is not sustainable or healthy, but they keep going back to it anyway. The repeated lines "find it on the comedown, but I don't wanna come down" convey the mixed feelings of wanting to prolong the high and the fear of the inevitable crash.

Overall, the lyrics of "Vertigo" convey a complex emotional state that is both alluring and destructive. It's a cautionary tale of the dangers of addiction and the need to find healthier ways to cope with reality.

That riff @2:10 is goosebump-level magic

@ShortandSweet

As someone with vertigo the lyrics really accurately describe the symptoms. I think this song is pretty good

I’m pretty sure this song is about substance abuse / sobriety. “Blacked out, spinning all around, you lost it in the high, but I know you’ll find it on the comedown”

I'm about the same. Funny how "Neurotic" was the lead single & it's not hitting me like the others listed here. I love the part of "Neurotic" were they sing "decompose, decompose" but the main chorus is a little whiny & nasally to be a favorite of mine, but it's still very good. "Departure" reminds me of "a song off the Cure's Disintegration album, but "Departure" is actually better to me b/c it flows better somehow.

This is a band evolution gone right. Transitioning from hardcore to any other genre is difficult, but going to this shoegazey Euro rock style is on point. The chorus is super catchy, great riffs and I love the beat. Love their stuff, Free is probably my favorite album of their hardcore era, but this album is still great.
