Inspired by influential bands such as The Cure, The Strokes, and The Killers, HUNNY's music can be described as well-crafted "post-punk tinged pop". Combining elements of new-wave sheen, shoegaze gloom, and angular guitar rock, the band's sound carries a distinct California cool sensibility. Jason Yarger, the band's lead vocalist and guitarist, coined the term "sadwave" to characterize HUNNY's genre, with lyrics revolving around their personal experiences growing up and encounters with love and heartbreak.
HUNNY gained early recognition with the release of their self-titled EP, "Pain/ Ache/ Loving," in 2015. This EP garnered millions of streams, thanks to tracks like the hit single "Cry For Me." Throughout their journey, HUNNY has shared close ties with long-time friends The Neighbourhood and Bad Suns. In 2015, they accompanied these bands on a tour across the United States called "#THEFLOOD2015," which coincided with the release of The Neighbourhood's second album.
In 2019, HUNNY signed a record deal with Epitaph Records and released their debut full-length album, "Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes." Produced by GRAMMY-winner Carlos de la Garza (known for his work with Paramore and Best Coast), the album showcased a polished production sheen that received acclaim from music outlets like Alternative Press. The album's blend of perfunctory electronic and new-wave pop, infused with themes of love, heartbreak, and neuroses, further solidified HUNNY's unique sound. As a result, the band embarked on global tours, sharing stages with notable acts such as State Champs, Citizen, and The Story So Far.

Making mistakes without anyone′s help
The ice too thin to hold our weight
It cracks, it breaks, we sink the same
You said that you'd be home by nine
But I want you by my side
I try, I fantasize
You should change your mind
That′s what it's for (That's what it′s for)
You should change your mind
Just wanna leave, just wanna talk
If I′m a letter, then you're a postcard
From some exotic place, somewhere very far
The ice too thin to hold our weight
It cracks, it breaks, we sink the same
You said that you′d be home by nine
But I want you by my side
I try, I fantasize
That you never disappoint me
You should change your mind
That's what it′s for (That's what it′s for)
You should change your mind
Just wanna leave, just wanna talk
You should change your mind
That's what it's for (That′s what it′s for)
You should change your mind
Just wanna leave, just wanna talk
We walked, what felt like miles only was three blocks
You said you couldn't feel your hands
I try, I realize
That I′m always disappointing
You should change your mind
That's what it′s for (That's what it′s for)
You should change your mind
Just wanna leave, just wanna talk
You should change your mind (Oh, ho)
You should change your mind (Oh, ho)
The lyrics of Hunny's song "Change Ur Mind" are about a couple's relationship that has become unstable and complicated. The chorus, "You should change your mind, that's what it's for", suggests that the couple needs to have a change of heart or perspective in order to save their relationship. The singer wishes for her partner to stay with her and fantasizes about a perfect relationship that never experiences any disappointment or mistakes. However, the reality is much different, as they both make mistakes and end up sinking together, their relationship getting thinner like fragile ice. The verse "If I'm a letter, then you're a postcard from some exotic place, somewhere very far" suggests distance and disconnect in the relationship, and that perhaps the couple's different lifestyles and/or personalities are contributing to the strain.
The lyrics also contain references to disappointment, such as "that you never disappoint me" and "That I'm always disappointing". This suggests a feeling of betrayal and frustration from both parties in the relationship. The second verse describes a walk they took that felt like miles when it was only three blocks, which emphasizes the tension between them. Overall, the song conveys a sense of longing for a successful, happy relationship, while acknowledging the reality of mistakes and difficulties.

I saw them live when I went to see Cavetown last year. I'd never heard any of the songs before and this was my favourite. I was really impressed by the lead singer's energy and his inability to fall over when he was dancing like that for half an hour
