Inspired by artists such as The Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bruce Springsteen Will & Jimmy started to write and perform as a duo. Jimmy took responsibility for lead guitar, mandolin and vocal whilst beside him Will not only played rhythm guitar but also kick drum and joint lead vocals. Will took a performance course at University, where he met Josh who was also pursuing the same degree.
Jimmy & Will had already decided they needed a third member to play bass and over a few drinks, and despite already being an accomplished guitarist, Josh decided to learn the bass. This completed the band lineup and in November 2012 the trio all moved to London to bring their own brand of power folk to the huddled masses. A mix of folk, country & rock, tight three part harmonies and explosive energy ensures an impressive live show.
Pick Me Up
Hunter & the Bear Lyrics

Burned and broke
I've been playing on these old string for far too long
I don't know
What you've been told
But I've been watching from the side while the others walk my road
Pick me up
Pick me up
Pick me up
Leave me here
Where I lie
I won't sing another love song for you so don't you try
As it stands
I've miles to go
But I won't let this be the end of me that much I know
If I fall behind
Pick me up
Pick me up
Pick me up
Fallen trees are in my way
Pick me up
When the light begins to fade
Pick me up
Fallen trees are in my way
Pick up
Who the light begins to fade
Pick me up
And if I fall behind
Pick me up
Pick me up
Pick me up
The lyrics of "Pick Me Up" by Hunter & the Bear reveal the struggles and difficulties faced by the singer. The first few lines reference a sense of burnout and disillusionment which comes through in their music, and how they feel like they've been playing on these old strings for too long. They feel stuck in a rut and in need of inspiration and new direction. However, despite their struggles, they seem to have been paying attention to other people's journeys and paths, eager to learn from the mistakes of others and avoid falling behind.
The chorus of the song begins with a plea - "If I fall behind, pick me up". The singer acknowledges that they may stumble along the way, but they don't want to be left behind. They're looking for someone to support them on their journey, someone who will help them stay on track and pick them up when they fall. The middle verse takes a different approach, with the singer telling someone not to try and coax them into writing another love song. There’s a sense of frustration here, that whoever they're singing to is trying to pigeonhole them into writing the same sort of music.
The final verse has a more positive tone, with the singer stating they know they have a long way to go, but it won't be the end of them. They know they need to keep going on this path, “miles to go” but they won't be defeated. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, with the singer again asking for help as they navigate the obstacles in their way.
