The real question is....

When we are thinking of Electrons as Spinors in Euclidian space, do we have to assume existence of the electrons... Do we have to assume that they have a specific location at a time? Do we then have to necessarily assume that Quantum superposition or uncertainty principles have a loop hole or are flawed?

When we are talking about right handed or left handed electrons, are we assuming their existence at a location with coordinates?

What are the Spinors or Twistors made of? (I think you asked this question in the video.) Are they made up of bent or twisted space?

Do we have to assume fixed time of Euclidean space or variable space time of Minkowski's space?

I assume the answer to all of these is yes. That we assume they exist and have a location. And we need Euclidean fixed time fixed time.

As a lay person, not actively engaged in physics research, I saw an animation of a spinor that is commonly available in Wikipedia. It shows a sphere with multiple wire-like cylindrical things projecting spirally outwards towards infinity and attached outwards with the sphere spinning around and thus coming back to original location after two turns instead of one, like the Dirac's belt trick. I am not sure if that is a representative but I assume it is close.

What is this sphere made of and what are these cylindrical projections made up of? Are they just mathematical alone or do they exist in reality representing the topology of space?

Do they represent bent twisted space?

Are they really moving? Are they moving outwards, I.e. Changing location (like rays of light emanating from the Sun)

Do they have anything to do with electric Flux or magnetic flux? Do they hv anything to do with electric or magnetic field?

What is the status of time within these cylindrical projections?

Can these movements of cylindrical projections reverberate back and forth between two extremes giving rise to something like a vibrating twisted actively moving space (preferably not space-time)....

If we assume that they do represent twisted moving reverberating space (/space-time) and their twists depend on multiple factors, each factor representing a dimension or a variable or a co ordinate, do they not look like strings vibrating in higher dimensions?

You may have got a feeling I kind of know answers to all these questions and I am trying to thrust my TOE.

No I am not. (Although my TOE, the DGR, does attempt to kind-of answer these questions.

Beyond 'just so' stories of fabled realms. I seem also to remember about the same time, Penrose's group was having difficulty getting actual testable numbers out of beautiful math. Interesting, I like that twisters are chiral, this has been one of those things that I have thought was wrong in theory - to find an issue with chirality, is an error in theory, theory needs to explain this. Supersymetry as well is in error, complexity is needed here. I have been wondering if twisters can be used to describe particles in a quantized gravity where gravity (Dirac's Large Number Hypothesis) is not the curvature (though this is a fine way to model it) of space but the inertial light-cone of a flat, open, unbounded holographic universe described as a resonant medium. The twister being a topological description of the history of the particle. Just a thought that has been hanging around in my grey matter.

I am a proponent of string theory, but as with Eric Weinstein's theory, I think Peter Woit's specific proposals deserve more engagement than they are receiving - both critical and creative engagement.

One thing that's unclear to me, is his approach to particle statistics. In "Euclidean Twistor Unification", he says he finds something with the same transformation properties as a generation of standard model fermions, but the degrees of freedom in question would appear to be bosonic. It seems to me he'd need his twistors to be supertwistors, to actually get a fermionic generation in this way... And then, in the latest paper ("Space-time is Right-handed"), he says the usual Euclidean continuation of spinor fields is doubled (chirally symmetric), then you take the diagonal, while he proposes a chirally asymmetric version. But doesn't all that refer to fermions? Whereas he's talking about constructing general relativity from bosonic spinors.

Unfortunately I am, myself, guilty of only spending a short amount of time with these papers. So these questions come from a somewhat superficial reading. If I had more time, I'd try to answer these questions for myself...

Another intriguing thing, is that Peter Scholze informed him about the use of twistor-like vector bundles in number theory. I see how this came about - "Not Even Wrong" focuses on string theory, but also has many posts on Mochizuki's claimed proof of the abc conjecture, regarding which Scholze has become the leading critic. Peter Woit certainly takes Peter Scholze's side (which also seems to be the side of the majority of western number theorists)... The ironic thing is that some of Mochizuki's technical concepts are analogous to concepts in string theory, speicifically the "arithmetic Teichmuller space" which describes the deformation of number systems, just as usual Teichmuller space describes string histories of a given topology. The mathematician Kirti Joshi could say more about this analogy.

The mathematical fact I think Peter was referring to is that SL(2,C) is simply connected, that is it doesn’t admit any non-trivial covering. Hence SL(2,C) is in fact the universal covering space of the Lorentz group, in that if there is a covering X to the Lorentz group, then SL(2,C) has a map realizing it as a cover of X.

But then X is either SL(2,C) or the Lorentz group, as SL(2,C) to the Lorentz group is two to one.

What is interesting, is that many people says string theory is dead and nonsense, but nobody have even a decent proposal better than string theory. On the other hand, the hardest working folks actually in the string theory community, also it's still enjoy a large interest of postdocs and young folks enter the field. On the factual side, string theory the only current theory contains gravity by default while others struggle to fit it in their theory.

This interview should have only been about Peter, not Whitten. Also I wanted to learn more about spinors and how Peter describes them in the world. Because its not just a temporal activity. And it cant be related to inanimate objects. Maybe Curt could have been more deliberate to help steer the mode toward an audience of learners rather than probe for issues between big thinkers of the last 3 decades. @47:00 conventional GR is achiral (chiral symmetric) because the symmetries are global. In a quantum theory we have to localize symmetries so need to consider local spacetime topology. Classical mechanics is supposed to be chiral. Nature really is mostly chiral, unless a handedness gets by chance "baked-in" like molecules for living cells, etc. In the spacetime topology (quantum structure) is the only place there is chiral asymmetry, thanks to the mass terms in the Lagrangian. Chiral symmetry occurs as a spontaneously broken symmetry, so there's a phase transition, if we go to high energy and massless particles we restore full chiral symmetry. (You can fact check me, I'm just writing off the top of my head here.)
Point is, you should want achiral GR globally. It's a classical theory. You get chiral fermions from the condensation out of the high energy states as a dynamical process. It is only the weak interactions that are chiral, but that's because of parity symmetry violation, not left-right asymmetry per se., if not for parity asymmetry the EW theory would be achiral too. So, for me, the mystery is parity violation in the EW interactions. Why? I mean... just... why!!!??? (honestly have not thought about it too much though, should be something susceptible to a type of Grothendieck rising sea resolution. Neutrino topology I'd say. The SM is incomplete with point particles.)

Until the folks working on the quantum gravity problem do away with the whole idea of ‘trivial’ they will be stuck in the mud. NOTHING is trivial when your trying to graph out pure unity. I think that string theory is the proof that physicists currently are fundamentally looking for career safety and funding over asking very difficult questions. And frankly who can blame them as science in general is underfunded and precarious. The massive inertia string theory is causing, and has caused in physics will be very difficult, if not impossible to shift in the lifetimes of anyone older than current high schoolers with an interest in the subject.

To restore a point's simple behavior, one’s frame of reference might be attached to it; and of course any attachment that might rotate cannot be infinite, which further simplifies everything considerably. But without a sense of eternal orthogonality – whether in that self-derivative (& probabilistically fixed) sense of e^(iπ) = -1, or this self-replicating scaled sense of Φ = (1±√5)/2 – the foundations would surely collapse. So reality as thusly given couldn't be simpler, eh?

You have to ask what QFT are they unifying? the answer is they have none. You can't just point to a fictional toy model like an AdS/CFT and say, "see, look at that!" This is not to say some time in the future the M-theory people might arrive at a particular QFT that subsumes the SM. But they have not one yet. Here I think the hype of "consistency" is talk about having a renormalizable perturbative limit, or free of anomalies. It is important but is a weak or minimal criterion. Really what the aim should be is consistency with the real world. Not just mathematical consistency.

One simple humble suggestion:
Leave alone the Einstein with its spaces (Minkovsky and all) and the Quantum Theory (which is so nice so far). What is the human nature greedy and desperate to unite everything into TOE??? @Michael Pieters what a lame comment, the mathematical structures are meant to capture the dynamics of nature, and guess what, in many instances during the history of physics they are proven to be correct. (Many more have not for that matter)
What is not insightful about the Einstein field equations? Are they all encompassing? No obviously not, but that's what we can try. It also goes to the philosophy of an ultimate oneness, that everything is unified. I don't see what's wrong with this philosophy, there is no good reason against it since several fields of physics have been unified before too

@1:55:00 the Arkani-Hamed argument for "doom of spacetime" is very poetic, and does not work. It is harking back to Bohr and logical positivism. He's saying because you cannot measure the stuff (sub-Planck units of spacetime geometry) it cannot exist. That's a fools logic. Although Nima ain't no fool, smart people can believe stupid things. Not all things can be directly perceived.

The more interesting bit was a minute later when Woit talks about efforts to quantize the metric. The thing about that which few physicists seem top acknowledge, is that there is no good reason to want to quantize the metric. One should ask what exactly is quantization, and why do we do it? If you say, "because it works" you haven't understood anything. A pretty decent answer (not saying it is correct) is that we quantize systems because they're very small, or non-local, and so have entanglement or superposition effects. That is however all local (non-locality is always bounded and only occurs with entanglement) and about continuity (superposition allow continuous transforms from pure states going only through pure states, which is impossible in classical mechanics, and is the unique distinguishing feature of quantum mechanics.)
You should then ask why the spacetime metric or connexion has to also be entangled or in superposition. The answer is there is no good reason at all. There is not a single observable effect of a superposition of spacetime. All of orthodox QM is superpositions of objects embedded in spacetime, or it's topology. Or if you like, the information in the elementary bits/qubits, But not spacetime itself. Consider ER=EPR: that's entanglement, but you do not double-dip the entanglement by entangling the entanglement. So you probably do not ever need or want to "quantize" gravity.
So-called unification can be a different sort of program. Think of spacetime as the stator of the whole system, the other gauge forces the rotors. (So to speak, engineering analogy).

What a waste of time for physicists to spend all their effort at mathematical physics, but have no clue what spacetime is made of, no clue how to develop a spacetime technology like warp drive physics.

I wish there was a Donald Trump physicist who would fire all the string theorists.
