Production
I Mother Earth Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This man
May have a shitload to prove
He's got to settle a score
Against the groove
Infinite orgasm
Like endless joy and pain
Thunder to my ears
Like a holy rain

An aural wall of waking
Awash in purple paint
And a digging
Of the flowers in your yard
Electric rays of healing
Intensify the feelingof hatred
Towards the things you say
I ain't

Fear a man-child
Has soul and semen
Pathetic thought he thinks
Forever
Heard you caused a landslide
Walking home
Saw you slide the man-child
Under your coat

Product of your generation
Product of your masturbation
Product of a master plan
Product of a holy man
Product of infanticide
Product of decaying minds
Product of mass corruption

The product
And its production

Overall Meaning

The song Production by I Mother Earth offers a profound commentary on society's fixation on success at any cost. The opening lines introduce a man who feels he has a great deal to prove and is determined to defy the typical conventions of society. He's set on settling a score against the groove, implying that he's not interested in conformity, but rather in discovering his own path. He experiences an infinite orgasmic sense of joy and pain, a feeling that can be both pleasurable and agonizing. This intensity of emotion and experience is compared to a holy rainstorm that is both thunderous and awe-inspiring.

As the song continues, the lyrics take a turn towards examining the dangers of false prophets and the cult of success. The man-child referred to in the song is someone who believes fervently in his own greatness and potential, but who is ultimately revealed to be nothing more than a product of society's desperate obsession with success. He's been produced by a system that values the outcome above all else, regardless of the human cost. The song also deals with themes of corruption and decay, tying the specific case of the man-child to larger societal problems. The refrain "product of" is repeated throughout the song, emphasizing the idea that this man-child is a product of larger systems of power and control.

Overall, Production is a complex and thought-provoking song that delves into a number of different issues related to society, individualism, and the pressure to succeed. Through its vivid and intense imagery, it serves as a commentary on the dangers of a culture that prioritizes results over people.

Thanks a ton for uploading this, tried to show it to a friend not too long ago and found that it wasn't on YT. Cannot get over that bass riff.

My favourite I mother earth song. Jagori is just one of the best players!

Peter Mancuso

To the two writers below, Jaggori Tana is the guitarist who played ALL the guitar and bass for the recording of DIG and Bruce Gordon is the bassist who they eventually found...and to me it also sounds like a bass playing that riff guaranteed...but Jag playing it!!

DenEast

That's Jag slapping on his guitar. Incredble!!

sixfeetontop

However they did that bass line using a guitar, it sounds so... Orgasmic:).

HeavyMetal257

true fact: the slap part is played on a stratocaster electric guitar

🌟 The Dig album came out in 1993. It's 2023. Please do a Remastered 30th Anniversary Reissue of this amazing album this year! Please "like" this comment if you're a fan and agree. Maybe it will help to show that people want this to happen.

@Soul4Sail1 Interestingly enough this is not a bassline that is prevalent in this song. I met the IME boys after one of their shows and was talking to Bruce (the guitarist) and mentioned how sick Jag's bassline was in this song.....Bruce corrected me and said it was not a bassline and was him that was shredding this! I felt a little dumb.
