recently, one of my friends left our group.
while that doesn't seem that bad, please know that they were a really good person, and we all cared for them deeply.
however, we made a lot of poor decisions that made them uncomfortable, causing them to leave.
while i do respect them leaving, it still hurts.
i'm mentioning this here because while i personally have never watched steven universe, i stumbled across a file on my pc of them singing this song.
i guess hearing it here just helps me reflect
so, i guess this is just a thank you to a show i've never watched

I was in a group of friends once. They changed when high school hit, teasing me and mocking my faith in God. It hurt me because they were really my only friends. I had to leave the group if I were to grow as a person. I never saw them differently because of their different beliefs, sexualities, or anything. They were my friends, and they bullied me without even realizing it.
Later in life, I became a hypocrite by doing the exact same thing to a friend of mine from Canada. I was bothering her without realizing how much I bothered her, and she cut contact with me. She didn't deserve my crap.
So, I guess I feel the same way. This song, however, reminds me of a show that taught me a lot.
Steven Universe 2013 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012 were like childhood shows to me. The holes in my heart are proof of how sad I was when they ended.
Remember what Dr. Seuss. "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."
Life is full of mistakes, yo. But that just gives is a reason to better ourselves.

I personally think that this is Rose singing to the Crystal Gems. Here's why:

Half of what you think of me"
They all think very highly of Rose, Pearl in particular, as she was their leader and the gem who set them free. But she doesn't see herself in such a good light as he does: she wishes she could be half of what they think of her.
- "When I see the way you act
Wondering when I'm coming back"
The Crystal Gems all miss Rose dearly and wish she could come back, again Pearl in particular, which is who I think this line is directed at. Pearl acts irrationally and puts Steven's life in danger more than once, wishing that Rose would come back.
- "I could do about anything
I could even learn how to love like you"
Despite being a very loving gem, Rose wishes she could learn to love like the Crystal Gems do, Steven in particular, as he is able to show love and compassion in situations even she couldn't. She says she could do anything, even learning how to love (v)

Rose shattered Pink Diamond, going against her own morals and filling her with guilt at essentially murdering her own leader, leading her to believe that she is bad. She sees this to be true, as the gems and Steven are so much better than she was in her opinion and that she's nothing like them: a renegade Pearl, a fusion of love, a one of a kind Amethyst and a gem/human hybrid. She is the only "normal" member of the team in Homeworld's eyes.

I wish that I knew what makes you think I'm so special"
She loved all of her friends, and, if she saw him, would love Steven too. But she doesn't see why they love her so much, why they think she's so great, so special. To her, she's a guilty, Diamond shattering traitor. She did what was right for the Earth, making her special to those she saved. (vv)

This line could mean several things, but I think that it's Rose speaking about how long it took for the truth about her to come out, how long it took for Steven to know what really happened.
- "Love me like you"
I believe that Rose is saying this final line to Steven, asking him to love her like he loves everyone else, in a way telling him to love himself
