Don't Believe Anymore (Ivan Go
Icehouse Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I never counted on this
'cause that's the way that it goes, yeah
You used to be someone I knew,
Somebody I could understand but,
Now I don't know what to do
And I don't know who you are now
All the things I hear you say
You talk that way
You're a stranger
And I

I don't know where to be begin
Don't want to hear it again
I don't believe anymore
This is all I know
I know I've heard it before
I don't believe anymore

And I remember your voice
Before this happened to us
But I could see
And I was sure
And everything was young and new but

We lost it too many times
And that's the way that it is
Lovers come and lovers go
When you think that you know,
It just isn't true, oh

I don't know where to be begin
Don't want to hear it again
I don't believe anymore
This is all I know
I know I've heard it before
I don't believe anymore

I don't know where to be begin
Don't want to hear it again
I don't believe anymore
This is all I know
I know I've heard it before
I don't believe anymore

Don't believe anymore

Don't believe anymore

I don't know where to be begin
Don't want to hear it again
I don't believe anymore
This is all I know
I know I've heard it before
I don't believe anymore

Oh, oh, oh

Don't believe anymore

Overall Meaning

In Icehouse's song "Don't Believe Any More," the singer expresses feelings of confusion, disillusionment, and loss in a relationship. He begins by stating that he never expected things would turn out this way, but acknowledges that life often has its own plans. He used to know and understand the person he is singing to, but now feels like they're a stranger. The person has said things that don't make sense to the singer, making it hard to connect with them. The chorus repeats the phrase "I don't believe anymore," indicating the singer's disappointment and loss of faith in both the relationship and the person he's singing to.

The lyrics suggest that the relationship has been going on for some time, and the singer remembers how things used to be before something (not specified) happened to them. The singer is unsure of how to proceed and doesn't want to hear the same things all over again. He's been disillusioned and lost the ability to trust, having heard it all before but finding that what he thought he knew wasn't true.

Overall, the song conveys the complex mix of emotions that arise from the breakdown of a relationship, including disappointment, disillusionment, and a sense of betrayal. The lyrics capture the feeling of being lost in a relationship that no longer feels familiar, and the desire to move on and find something more authentic.

Loving all of the comments here from all across the globe,OK? Seems like americanos in general don’t seem to comprehend the art of the remix culture(other than dj’s/the underground, what’s left of it)?

But as soon as a uber mainstream celebrity utilizes it,then and only then do they go ga-ga over it,pun intended!

I’m borne American, but I’ve always been an internationalist, born in the middle americas to boot!

Five and a 1/2 decades of being progressive, still have difficulties in finding companions/friends/mates/significant others/etc.

It’s gotten downright silly at this point, plan on moving to the west coast, where I shouldn’t have this problem, then overseas/down under/whatever’s clever!

During this trying experience, music from all over the world has touched my soul, uplifting my soul/heart/mind/spirit,and I fully intend to pay it forward…

Thanks for the kind words everyone. When we did this mix and handed it in to the label, we were told "no way this has to be 4 minutes MAX..". We proceeded to edit it down but in the meantime Iva Davies heard it and told the label we had to have the full 9 minutes. He liked it so much he sent us a letter calling me and Colin gods! Iva is a legend and it was an honour to remix this for him and Icehouse.

Ivan, this remix is a true masterpiece. Amazing. A priceless nine minute gem. I remember when I first heard it on Meltdown when it was released, I immediately wished that you and Colin did the whole album. Still do. Still in high rotation for me now. Countless thanks

Very possibly the best 9 minutes of your day, unless of course, you keep it on replay. Then, it's simply a great day. It is truly a magical rework!!

This has been my go to song since 2011. I used to loop this at my toxic job for 5 years. I live with chronic pain (occipital neuralgia) and i just say this removes an edge.
