Hey, fellow Michigander here 👋! I’m wondering about topical/OTC products for loose skin. I went from 100lbs to 165lbs during pregnancy. That was 5 years ago. I addressed my DR, most of my stretch marks are unnoticeable, & I’m about 110lbs now, occasionally I drop below 100 from not having time or being too stressed to eat from my job. Anyway, I don’t have a ton of loose skin but it’s enough that even when I’m 95lbs, you can still see a little bulge from the side if I wear a tight dress and I feel like I can only wear high waisted bikinis & pants. It’s gotten better over time, but would def like to see further improvements.
TL;DR: Would products like topical retinoids, peptides, or acids (BHA/AHAs - OTC or professional chemical peel strength) help improve elasticity or collagen production enough to make a discernible difference?
What about oral collagen supplements?

After losing around 50 lbs,I was shocked I could tell the difference after I ate. I've never experienced that before so compression has made a big difference for any formal outing that involves food. I also used it during my weight loss Journey to reduce the chances of a lot of loose skin I do believe it helped a lot. It's also great for me because I don't have enough loose skin to want to trade it for a large scar.

3 C-sections and in the 20 years since my last one have never been able to get my tummy to go away. Work out a lot, worked with different personal trainers over the years, Olympic weight lifting for 2 yrs, yoga, Pilates, Cardio, fasting, deficit calories, keto diet, vegetarian diet, worked with nutritionist, and b/c I had a PE after the last C-sec, no doctor will do a tummy tuck, lipo or any procedure on me. Do some type of workout every day even if it is just walking 3-5 miles. So very frustrating. And before I get all the comments about food, I Do Not eat out at fast food restaurants, or eat pizza, cheeseburgers, ice-cream, French fries, or any type of food like that, it makes me physically ill if I do, and I consume very little sugar if any at all, and I do not drink alcohol. I keep my calorie intake around 1100 a day or less.

I went from looking 3-month pregnant to having actual abs in 5-6 months in 2020. I did a few things in parallel - started intermittent fasting ( only eat between noon to 8pm ) ; used Noom to help track calories ( other trackers work too but I found Noom to be the easiest ) and adjust my diet structure; cut off sugar , some carb and some other calorie-dense food : work out every single day and did core / abs exercise; cut out cold food and excessive raw foods. I started intermittent fasting November 2020 and as of today March 23 2021 I've lost 42lbs! It's the easiest way to lose weight for me because most of the fast takes place sleeping! I stop eating 9PM or whenever then I won't eat again until 12noon. I've never been a breakfast eater so it's no problem! After the first week it was just a matter of getting into the schedule... one more thing, I stopped eating bread and cheese and watch my sugar and that's a big part of my success!

Ugh, I’m 49, my kids range from 22 to 31… I did sit-ups and crunches like a fiend, carried them in front packs… I practically did everything you can do to enhance my milk maid’s apron. When I lose weight it looks worse. What are your thoughts to the belly wrap, not for immediate cosmetic effect but to support all that skin when I lose weight? I had a Kybella treatment for a small fatty area under my chin. To my dismay, the tiny spot blew up and up and I had swelling the size of a grapefruit! I thought, "Be patient." EIGHT WEEKS LATER, no change and it was STILL very painful. I guess my body didn't like the Kybella. So, under my chin was TEN TIMES BIGGER than it originally was. Grrrr! So, I had to have liposuction and a surgical "tuck" to tighten the skin that stretched to finally correct it. I now have absolutely NO FAITH in "non-invasive" treatments.

I have all three, bloating, stretched out skin and a little fat. Had multiple surgeries over the past few years that prevented me from working out or even lifting more than 5lbs, so the core is shot. I might need one of these procedures though because I had an ostomy on my left side and when it was reversed some of the fat was removed but on the right it wasn’t so I have an uneven tummy. I also have a vertical scar down the center (belly button down) that doesn’t help.

I'd managed to keep weight off & remain at the same weight as when I was 14 y/o. In my late 40's doctors prescribed me one drug after another all of which piled on the kilos. When I was 50, the latest in drugs piled on nearly 20kgs in just under 18 months. OUCH. Super painful (I have fibromyalgia). This weight seems far more stubborn than any other kind of weight gain throughout my life. The medical industry piled on the fat and won't accept any responsibility or assist in any way. Not even advice. I have no idea what to do. And it's thanks to the medical industry I've been ill for 30 years (medical misadventure). Any suggestions? Please? This fat does not behave like episodes of weight gain in the past. My age also doesn't help :-(

I had liposuction and the doctor was surprised at what little fat there was. What I have is prolapsed stomach muscle...if that’s even a thing. But I have two hernias as well in my stomach that sometimes even getting up from laying down the insides will pop through the tear...which makes doing any stomach exercises difficult. I’m intermittent fasting and just ordered HMB in hopes it will repair the hernias by rebuilding the muscle. ☺️

If you don’t have the excess weight to lose & it’s just your tummy that’s an issue due to kids do not listen to the people who say you can’t spot reduce fat. Most slim women who have kids have the mommy tummy, you have to do diastases recti workouts to help that area. Yes nutrition plays a part but doing workouts like sit-ups and crunches will make it worse.

U can't spot reduce fat. U have to burn fat overall. Add in strength training cos muscles burn more calories than fat even at rest. Make sure to have clean diet and sufficient sleep

Intermittent fasting works! Most days I eat breakfast at 09:30, lunch at 11:30, a snack 14:30 and dinner around 17:00.
This in combination with increased physical activity and healthy food made me lose weight and abdominal fat.

I had an 8 pack and no waist until I got Diverticulitis. I had to wear a colostomy bag for 4 months and had a reversal which I'm very thankful for. @anonymous I would suggest getting some blood work done and make sure they check your thyroid out. (T-3 & T-4)
I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism back in 2010 after gaining almost 70lbs seemly overnight. It didn’t matter if I starved myself, I could not lose the weight because the thyroid controls your metabolism. I got on medication and eventually lost the weight. NTD thyroid meds work the best. (Natural thyroid)
I hope you get this straightened out & I seriously understand that struggle.

@ZJ ZJ Originally, he was doing what they used to refer to as the “sunset fast” in which he would fast all day long and eat one meal a day at dinner. Now he has cut down to doing this three days a week and has been able to keep the weight off. I think consistently is key for success. 😊

Dr. Youn, I am so glad i found your channel. i have unexplained soreness deep inside my lower rectus muscle for years right next to my belly button. I poke the area constantly in hopes of relieving the pain..this started right after i had hernia surgery with mesh. what could have caused this? what could this be? i had mesh removed because we thought the mesh was causing it but i continue to have this pain and it kills my back. I am a student and the pain wont let me study. What can I do please? no one will give me answers.

Holistic plastic surgeon !!! YES.....since when ! I love this idea of looking at the whole body and attempting to help others through diet and health. I personally have a bloating issue with a bit of fat from pregnancies. I will be watching that video for bloating, because my doctor is saying there is nothing wrong...yet looking like im four months pregnant for more than half the day...is right? lol

Thank you for this information. I have a question about cybella, can it be used for hormonal fat deposits at the lower back? I have Hashimoto’s Hypothyroidism and since diagnosed, I’ve developed a sort of “bumper” just above the back of my hips. I was curious if that might be an off label option? Or the back of upper arms, just very stubborn, even when I was an athlete in high school. (Thyroid problems since 18 y.o.) How do you feel endermology works in this realm?

I’m going to be doing physical therapy in about two weeks for postpartum DR. and I’ve suffered with bloating for years and years so I’ll check out that video

Interesting information. My question is, what about the elasticity of the skin after the treatment? Older people get flabbier skin
weight loss is just as bad and collagen powder isn’t a remedy. Would surgery be needed to remove that skin?

I've heard people who have excess skin from major weightloss have had some luck with dermarolling. Not the amount that they would have with skin removal surgery, but maybe it could help some people with loose skin from pregnancy too!

Hey I have a question for you I know this is an old video but I'm hoping you or someone knowledgeable will see this. I had a baby and I have lost about 40 pounds with Keto and intermittent fasting. I weigh 115 lbs and my stomach still hangs over! The right side of my rib cage is entirely plated with metal and I have heard that some of these laser or fat heating devices can't be used if you have metal implants. So my question is, if the laser is being used on my lower abdomen will it affect my metal ribs?? And if so what treatments would I be a good candidate for instead? I was thinking Kybella and microneedling but I wanted someone's professional opinion. The loose skin and the fat are minimal I just want less hang. I've also heard that building abdominal muscles doesn't help much with the appearance of the baby belly and that basically a tummy tuck and rf would be the only things that will work for me. Any advice would be appreciated

I had diastasis. And three hernias. So I had to have open ventral hernia repair! I had sixty-five staples like an upside-down T. That put my separation back together!

:D I lost 10 kg with alternate day fasting in 3 months. That weight has not come back and my arms have shaped up a great deal, muscles that were buried in fat have started to appear and it looks good. Even my face is more like a triangle than what I started with.
I still need another 5-10 kg more to lose, but I took a break for like 6 months, I only gained 3 kg back.. so I went back on it and I lost them again in 1 month.. Now I will try to stick through it until the goal is achieved!
I'll go check this other type of fasting you mentioned! :3

Curious as to what something like the sculptsure procedure would cost, as I've seen stuff like those machines (but definitely ~~not~~ those machines) shown in Canada and the results are...less than stellar, and they wanted upwards of 10K for -1- procedure treatment. So...anything similar here, as I do have areas of fat that I have ~~never~~ been able to lose no matter what I do. I even explored the bariatric option...didn't go through with it, but I explored it.

My diastasis came from a horrible gymnastics injury when I was 6. I landed on my neck, my body scorpion tailed over my face and tore the upper abdominal muscles. I was able to get up after a few minutes so my parents thought nothing of it. Fast forward a few years and my abdominal muscles are so atrophied that I can't even move my middle more than an inch on either side.

Thank you!! You are the first person I've ever heard go into depth about how a tummy poking out is not always the same cause, and that different methods to treat the issue depend on what the issue is exactly. It makes me wonder if many struggle to lose belly bulge because they're trying a 'tried and true' method that won't fix their particular problem, and don't understand why it isn't working. Everyone's always recommended the types of stretches you showed for post-birth tummy. I tried those and it never did anything for me. Go figure, I'm a man! LOL

Most 'flat belly' resources for guys focus way too much on becoming SUPER ripped and that's definitely not what I'm going for either.

I went for a Coolsculpting consultantion once. Just for one treatment, it would cost me $4000!!! There is no easy way to get rid of stubborn fat. I workout a few days a week. I eat healthy but I don't starve myself. Nothing works! I'm so sad by all this. We aren't ugly... we're just poor!

Intermittent fasting plus short high intensity exercise. Working from home I keep my skipping rope in the kitchen and use it for a few minutes at a time several times a day.
Happy to hear other people get armpit fat- I thought it was just me!

I have Lipoedema so it goes way beyond a little bloating, and tummy fat! Unfortunately it doesn't respond to diet and exercise and I got heavier while doing both! I now find my mobility being hindered and it is time for an intervention. I have also had 5 children. Being a size 6 is a long distant memory! I do know dry brushing helps, and Physical Tyerapy produced good results! I also have a Pneumatic Pump but who has 3 hours a day to devote to using it on my legs, waste, and upper arms. Especially since you do only one arm at a time!

Well of course there's like a difference between bloating and having a flap. My problem is that the doctors back then really didn't care about what they did to me and explaining to me that I should have wore a girdle. I was cut open from hip to hip 4 different times because I died of a pelvic infection event also had cancerous cyst on my ovaries. So now I've got that overhang and I'm 56 years old. I wish I had only had bloating problems lol.

@Veronica Moody I have been at it for 14 months. I use the young australian fitness coach named Holly Dolke. She is on you tube. Her 100 plus videos are from 5 or 6 minutes long up to maybe 20 minutes for cardio. No weights. I love her! She speaks softly and encourages. You need a mat, a bit of floor space, and start at your pace. I aim only for strength and flexibility. The fact that my body is slowly reshaping is a secondary positive result. It will happen! Go check Holly out.

After years of diabetes, the fat in my body was redistributed. I’ve got no hips, skinny legs, but plenty of fat from bellybutton up. I went from a high of 320lbs to 150lbs after menopause. Unfortunately, I’ve gained back 20lbs over the last 5 years. I’m working to get it off, but it’s all in my gut! It’s mid and upper abdomen. Any ideas to reduce this? Intermittent fasting too? Does intermittent fasting cause you to go into ketosis at all? I had a sleeve about 10 years ago without the duodenal switch. Now I need to have my gallbladder removed. I thought about having the bariatric surgeon do the gallbladder removal and a duodenal switch while he’s in there. I just really struggle to keep the weight off because for so many years by ate between five and 800 cal a day. Now I gain weight quickly on 1000 to 1200 cal.
