Band History
In 2005, singer Maria Brink and guitarist Chris Howorth met through some common friends. After becoming acquainted they found there was much in common between the two and began writing songs. Soon thereafter they enlisted the help of Los Angeles drummer Jeff Fabb. The band was first called Dying Star. By mid-2005, the lineup included Brink, Howorth, Fabb, guitarist Blake Bunzell, and bassist Josh Newell. The band recorded demos, and they generated a large internet following. During the summer of 2005, Newell departed from the band to focus on his other project, Ketaset, as well as his sound engineering work. A close friend of the band named Pascual Romero (of Tinhorn) took over bass duties for a short time before Jesse Landry was given the position, and the band found its permanent lineup. By the end of the year, In This Moment had generated such a large following due to diligent internet marketing and "do-it-yourself" touring, they sparked an interest from Century Media Records. A worldwide record deal followed. Jesse Landry departed from the band because he wanted to live his true dreams. Fly Planes. Kyle Konkiel Replaced him.
In May 2011, In This Moment posted on Facebook that they are working on new material for a new album hoping for a 2012 release. This new release was recorded without founding members Jeff Fabb and Blake Bunzel, who are both working with James Durbin as of September, 2011. Blood will be the first album since the band have parted ways with longtime manager, Blasko. Blood was revealed to be the album's title on April 6, 2012. On May 14, 2012, it was announced that the album will be released on August 14, 2012. "Blood" was released as the album's first single on June 12, 2012. The album artwork and track listing for Blood were released on June 18, 2012. New members include Travis Johnson on Bass, Randy Weitzel on Rhythm Guitar and Tom Hane on Drums.
In This Moment announced on February 5, 2014 that they had left their Century Media Records label that had produced their previous four studio albums and signed a new deal with Atlantic Records. They also said that they are set to enter the studio on February 23 to record their fifth studio album and follow up their break out album "Blood," released in 2012. Chris Howorth says, “We have a bunch of ideas and the way we did ‘Blood’ was different than we’d done any album before. We brought ideas and pieces and parts into the studio and wrote each song in the studio, one at a time. All the other albums we had the songs formatted and together already. So we’re going to do the same thing again. We’re gonna try to replicate the magic of ‘Blood’ and try to take the style and sound we had for ‘Blood’ and just do it bigger and better while still keeping true to that same vibe. That’s our sound. We feel like we found something and want to stick the flag in the ground on top of that hill.
On the 18th of November 2014, In This Moment released Black Widow, debuting at number 8, their highest position in the charts to date. Their sixth album, Ritual, was released in the summer of 2017. Their seventh studio album, Mother was released on March 27, 2020.

Dirty Pretty

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Who's the fairest of them all?
Tell me I'm the perfect queen
Mirror mirror in my hand
Who's the fairest in the land?
Are they lining up for me?
Turn it on, tune it in
Maybe I am not all that I've learned
Close your eyes, you twist and you turn
I know I am more than they see
I'm everything, everything is me
I won't be what you want me to be
Your picture perfect vanity
I don't want to be your dirty pretty
Mirror mirror unleash your tongue
Am I too old, am I too young?
Am I worthy of thy love?
Mirror mirror, you're so vain
Would you sell yourself for fame?
Are you the vulture, or are you the dove?
Turn it on, tune it in, let it out
Turn it on, tune it in
Maybe I am not all that I've learned
Close your eyes, you twist and you turn
I know I am more than they see
I'm everything, everything is me
I won't be what you want me to be
Your picture perfect vanity
I don't want to be your dirty pretty
I won't close my eyes, like you want me to
I am wild and free, I am untamable
I'm more than you'll ever see
More than just your dirty pretty
Maybe I am not all that I've learned
Close your eyes, you twist and you turn
I know I am more than they see
I'm everything, everything is me
I won't be what you want me to be
Your picture perfect vanity
I don't want to be your dirty pretty
In This Moment's "Dirty Pretty" is a powerful song about female beauty and its perception in society. The opening lines of the song, "Mirror mirror on the wall, Who's the fairest of them all? Tell me I'm the perfect queen," immediately reference the classic fairy tale of Snow White, where physical beauty was the most important attribute for a woman. However, the song takes a different turn by questioning the idea of beauty as defined by society, and who benefits from it.
The song's protagonist is aware of her own beauty, but also aware of how limiting it can be for her as a person. She questions the idea of being reduced to being "dirty pretty" – someone who is beautiful but nothing else – to satisfy the expectations of others. The lyrics "I won't be what you want me to be, your picture perfect vanity, I don't want to be your dirty pretty" convey the message that physical beauty is not everything, and the pressure to conform to society's standards of beauty can be oppressive.
The bridge of the song, "I won't close my eyes, like you want me to, I am wild and free, I am untamable, I'm more than you'll ever see, more than just your dirty pretty," highlights the idea of breaking free from society's expectations and embracing one's individuality. The song's message is empowering, encouraging women to reject the notion of "dirty pretty" and to be themselves regardless of societal pressure.

@Noodlepunk
A music video would be awesome. Should have a bunch of different women with different looks , sizes, and states of age in it. At least this is what I imagine when I listen to this song.
@Snard11
Dianna Rodriguez I feel like this song would go very well with the "Eye of the Beholder" episode of the Twilight Zone
@alexfamie5255
Jim Snard nice reference
@derickjohnson6404
Dianna Rodriguez hell yes, all her video are emincely entertaining and just down right Peace's of art. Gotta love a good down right creepy scary Melody, that can really get right under most people's skin.
@subdragon007
It is really odd how people are bashing the sound and imagery of this album. I get the look. It's called Black Widow, and in the Cover art, and especially in the "Sick Like Me" video is a lot of imagery of a black widow spider. I have loved all the different musical styles they have employed on this album. I remember Blondie did so much experimental stuff in their day. Plus this band likes to make sure you get a show. I really like that. I hope they come down to the Gulf Coast again, and I can get out to see them live.
@rustysteel7231
dam look how much Madonna changed up in the 80s people still jack off over her today...
