You're not thinking clearly
You've turned every stone
But your mind is still empty
Tell another lie so you can ease the pain
Living under clouds so you can feel the rain
I don't wanna watch you fade away
I don't wanna see you make the same mistakes
No
Just tell me everything you wanna hear
'Cause I'm not giving up on you, no
Heavy eyes from a sleepless night
Dim the sun because it burns so bright
Leaping past all the mess in your head
To fall face first onto a tainted bed
Obsessing over things you can't change
Living each day like it's one in the same
You're in a position for transition but you're stuck here reminiscing 'cause it's never about you
Maybe it's the thought that you could do more than this
Maybe it's the way that you wanted to be
But I can't save you
No
I don't wanna watch you fade away
I don't wanna see you make the same mistakes
No
Just tell me everything you wanna hear
'Cause I'm not giving up on you, no
Maybe it's the thought that you could do more than this
Maybe it's the way that you wanted to be
Maybe it's the pressure of the world on your shoulders
Maybe you can't stand the sight of your own skin
Just take control
Your future's waiting
Find the hope
Your life is worth living
No I don't wanna watch you fade away
No
I don't wanna watch you fade away
I don't wanna see you make the same mistakes
No
Just tell me everything you wanna hear
'Cause I'm not giving up on you, no
The lyrics to "Heavy Eyes" by Inertia speak to a sense of dissatisfaction and struggle that the singer is witnessing in someone close to them. The song describes this person stumbling home, not thinking clearly, and feeling empty despite their efforts to find fulfillment. The line "tell another lie so you can ease the pain" suggests that this person may be trying to hide their true feelings or situation. They are living under a cloud, metaphorically, to experience the rain, which can be interpreted as seeking out hardship to feel something, to break through their emotional and mental numbness.
The chorus expresses the singer's unwillingness to watch this person "fade away" or continue making the same mistakes. They want the person to be honest with them, to tell them what they want to hear, because they refuse to give up on them. The heavy eyes from a sleepless night and the burning sun symbolize the exhaustion and mental torment the person is experiencing. They are leaping past the mess in their head to escape and find solace in a tainted bed, suggesting they may be seeking unhealthy coping mechanisms.
The second verse highlights the person's obsession with things they cannot change and their repetitive lifestyle. They are stuck in reminiscence and cannot move forward. The bridge explores the person's potential, their desires to break free from their current state, and the pressure they feel. The singer acknowledges that they cannot save this person, but encourages them to take control and find hope, emphasizing that their life is worth living.
Overall, "Heavy Eyes" is a song about witnessing someone close to you struggle with dissatisfaction, numbness, and possibly mental health issues. It conveys the singer's deep concern and refusal to give up, urging the person to find their own strength and make positive changes.
