Inertia Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I Held out my hand for you
But you looked at me and said goodbye
How could something I held so true turn out to be such a lie
Your vacant words Drip like poison Through my memories Forever
Oh...
No no no no... you've left me behind
No no no no... you've left me behind
With only your whispers to keep me a live
So leave me behind this shell of a man and I will go on without you
Oh...
No no no no... you've left me behind
No no no no... you've left me behind
The lyrics of "Whispers" by Inertia revolve around the theme of heartbreak and betrayal. The opening lines "I held out my hand for you, but you looked at me and said goodbye" depict how the singer was left heartbroken and abandoned by someone they loved and trusted. The chorus "No no no no... you've left me behind" is a desperate plea to the person who left them, to not forget about them or completely abandon them.
The verses talk about the aftermath of the breakup, where the memories of the person cling to the singer like poison. The line "Your vacant words drip like poison through my memories forever" suggests that the person who left said things that haunt the singer even after they are gone. The singer is left with nothing but whispers to keep them alive, which may refer to the memories they have of the person who left, or the whispers of their own mind trying to make sense of what happened.
The final lines "So leave me behind this shell of a man, and I will go on without you" show a sense of resolve, where the singer acknowledges that they have been left behind and must move on. The song's mood is melancholic and reflective, as the singer struggles to come to terms with the loss of someone they loved deeply.
