Can't Help Falling In Love
Ingrid Michaelson(잉그리드 마이클슨) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wise men say only fools rush in, oh
But I can't help falling in love with you
Shall I stay
Would it be a sin
If I can't help falling in love with you

Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
Some things are meant to be
So take my hand, and take my whole life too
Cause I can't help falling in love with you

Like a river flows so surely to the sea
Oh my darling so it goes
Some things are meant to be
So won't you please just
Take my hand, and take my whole life too
'Cause I can't help falling in love, in love with you

'Cause I can't help falling in love,
Falling in love, I keep falling in love with you

Overall Meaning

Ingrid Michaelson's rendition of the classic song "Can't Help Falling in Love" captures the essence of the original 1961 hit by Elvis Presley. The opening line, "Wise men say only fools rush in," communicates an age-old warning of caution in matters of the heart. Still, despite this caution, the singer confesses that they cannot help but fall in love with their partner.

The second verse plays off the metaphor of a river flowing inevitably towards the sea, comparing it to the natural pull between two people in love. The chorus repeats the singer's sense of helplessness in their love, pleading with their partner to take their hand and whole life because they cannot resist the powerful force of love.

Covering a song isn't about copying the song, it is about taking it, and changing it, and making it into your own. I quite like this cover. It isn't just a copy of the original, which is good! I like that she had the courage to add her own flare to a very popular song!

Kaelyn Aures SAME! Such a great song to walk in with!

The thing is, the original is already perfect. The song doesn't need to change and taking it because you think you can 'better' it is arrogant and annoying

Jesterday most people aren’t changing it because they think they can make it better. they are taking an incredible song from an artist they look up to & putting their own spin on it because if they just did the exact same thing they know it wouldn’t be better than the original.

LULI LAGARTOS

@Jinnifer M I know, the original is really already perfect. No doubt about that, but what’s is the problem about having multiple perfect versions of the same song? I don’t see any... plus, I don’t think it’s arrogant AT ALL, to have someone trying to put their own truth in a beautiful masterpiece like this. One version doesn’t need to annul the other... both are aging like fine wine.
