The reggae group Inner Circle was formed in 1968 by the brothers Ian and Roger Lewis in Jamaica. At first they covered soul and R&B hits from the United States, and then also a few reggae songs, predominantly from Bob Marley.
The band released two albums as The Inner Circle in 1974 for jamaican label "Starapple"(and they were distributed by "Trojan" in UK), and resigned to Capitol Records in 1976, and Island Records(where the internationally successful album "Everything Is Great" originated. This album reached top 20 in the UK and preceded their other chart success by some years) in 1979.
Inner Circle was decidedly influenced through the original member Jacob Miller, the frontman and lead singer who was killed in a car crash on March 23, 1980. At the end of the 1970s Inner Circle with Jacob "Killer" Miller was more popular in Jamaica than Bob Marley. The band also appeared in the reggae cult film Rockers in 1978.
After the loss of Jacob Miller, Inner Circle broke up, but in 1982 another album called Something So Good was released. In 1986 Ian and Roger Lewis reestablished Inner Circle with the singer Carlton Coffie, and the band experienced a comeback with the album Black Roses.
In 1989, Inner Circle released the song "Bad Boys." Since then, the band calls itself "The Bad Boys of Reggae". They had another big hit with the 1993 song "Sweat (A La La La La Long)."
The lead singer Carlton Coffie was ill for a long period in 1995 and decided after his recuperation to start a solo career. The current singer Kris Bentley took his place.

Thinking about you all the time
The lonely hours wouldn't leave me alone
So I decide to call to see if you where home
Your love can conquer anything
Battels are always easy to win
Only you can keep this fire burning
Only you can satisfy
My soul my fantasy
Then suddenly the rain
Come falling down
Oh I remember that day we met, oh yes
A day like this romance can't miss
Ain't no use you trying to resist
A quiet storm is raging in me
I see no sign of calmness in mind
Only you can keep this fire burning
in me
Only you can satisfy my soul loving me
Only you only you
Your love can conquer anything
Battels are always easy to win
Only you can keep this fire burning in me, only you can
The Inner Circle's "Only You" is a soulful and romantic song that communicates feelings of loneliness, longing, and love. The first stanza introduces a scene of an idle Saturday afternoon when the singer is thinking about their lover. The second line reveals a sense of loneliness and isolation, indicating that the singer has been spending a lot of time alone. The third line suggests that attempts to overcome loneliness have been unfruitful, leading the singer to call their lover to check on them. In the last two lines, the singer praises the power of their lover's love and their ability to triumph over difficulty.
The chorus of the song accentuates that only the singer's lover has the strength to keep the fire of their love burning and truly satisfy them. The second stanza brings the memory of the day they met and highlights that it was a romantic day. The phrase, "A day like this romance can't miss," reinforces the idea that the universe conspired for them to meet, and the singer implores their lover not to resist their love. The last two lines of the stanza reveal that the singer's inner world is in turmoil and only their lover can calm them.
In summary, "Only You" is a song that speaks of pure affection and longing for a romantic partner, highlighting the importance of having someone to hold onto and the strengths of love genuinely shared between two people.
