Caught Up
Inner Life feat. Jocelyn Brown Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Hoping true love will find me there
Caught up in a one night love affair
In need of love again, that's just the way I am
Before I let you in
There's just one thing I wanna say
There's no need to pretend
Tomorrow you'll wake up and be on your way
Forget all the things you say tonight
That's why...
* Repeat
So make yourself at home
I want you only for a while
I haven't got much time
To find the man behind the smile
I'm a fairy-tale princess in search of a knight
And I never believe dreams come true
I'm just like you
You see...
* Repeat (x4)
Stay for a while, baby
Got to hold you for a while
Lay with you in style
Close the door and I'm next to you
The music sweet, just
watch what I'm gonna do
* Repeat and fade
The lyrics of Inner Life feat. Jocelyn Brown's "I'm Caught Up in a One Night Love Affair" speak of the singer’s desire to find true love, alluding to them being involved in a brief affair hoping that it could lead to a deeper, more substantial relationship. The singer is aware that the affair may end soon but hopes that it proves otherwise. They are looking for a person to fill the emptiness in their heart, someone to "find the man behind the smile" and to be there with them tomorrow after the nights spent together. However, they are also aware that their search for love will not be easy and they cannot trust the reliability of a relationship, doubting the possibility of the fulfillment of their dreams in finding true love. Still, they are determined to keep searching.
The verses speak of a fairy-tale princess in search of a knight, alluding to the classic story of Cinderella looking for her Prince Charming. The singer is like every other person searching for love, as they want someone to stay with them for a while and for the music to play while they lay next to each other. The lyrics, “The music sweet, just / watch what I'm gonna do,” suggest that the singer is interested in creating intimate moments with the person they are involved with. Overall, the lyrics speak of how the singer yearns for a love that is lasting and true.

At the age of 17, I snuck into the Garage just to hear her sing this song. It was the greatest night of my life. And I was hooked on the NYC nightlife that night forever. 40 years later it brings back so many memories. A timeless song. Thank you Jocelyn Brown.

Decades later, more than ever, I feel the epic moments you/we all felt on the world's best dance floors listening to this masterpiece.
My club was Junior Vasquez's Sound Factory but I also managed to get into Studio 54, the Garage, the Saint, and Flamingo while I was still practically a child.
This life energy is not only recorded in our memory, both individual and collective, it is encoded into our cells and molecules. And undoubtedly into our eternal ethereal bodies as well. Thank you God for bringing us this music of the spheres and the inspired souls like Larry Levan and Jocelyn Brown and others who brought it to us.

Got out of work early. They asked if I wanted to stay. I said No. Sun is setting soon. And I'm jamming to Inner life. Love it. That synth towards the end...I never noticed. I'm only 47. I grew up on House music, but have always been a student of what came before.
This can't be beat!
