Delay
Intergalactic Lovers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

After hours of motionless dancing
To the sound of heavy rain
I told myself to pick up the pieces
And go moving on up again
I'll just let it drip-drip-drip on me
I'll let it just soak right through
I'll let it just drip on me
I'll let it just soak right through

Whoehoehoehoehoe
It will get better,
That's what I told you from the start
Whoehoehoehoehoehoe
It will get clearer
That's what the weather gods said last night
This will all make sense in good time…

When I was just a young child
My father said to me
He said: sleep around with dogs, dear
And you'll for sure catch their flies
Well, your itchiness well suits me
And your boldness makes me smile
I guess I'll just stay a little longer
I guess I'll just give you a try

Whoehoehoehoehoe
It will get better
That's what I told you from the start
Whoehoehoehoehoehoe
It will get clearer

That's what the weather gods said last night
This will make sense in good time

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Intergalactic Lovers' song "Delay" talk about the experience of being stuck in a difficult situation, trying to move on and keep going despite setbacks. The first verse describes the feeling of being stuck in one place, unable to make progress, but also accepting and even embracing that feeling, as the rain soaks through and envelops the singer. The chorus then comes in with a message of hope, asserting that eventually things will get better and clearer, and it will all make sense in good time.

The second verse adds an interesting wrinkle to this message, as the singer recalls advice their father gave them as a child. The line "sleep around with dogs, dear / and you'll for sure catch their flies" is a clever twist on the familiar phrase "lie down with dogs, wake up with fleas." The message here seems to be that sometimes it's worth taking a risk and trying something new, even if it might lead to unexpected consequences. The singer seems willing to embrace the uncertainty of the situation, and see where it takes them.

Overall, the song captures an interesting mix of emotions - there's a sense of frustration and uncertainty, but also a kind of determined hopefulness. The singer knows that things may not be perfect, but is willing to keep trying and pushing forward anyway.

@@tristangalle5276 You sir, are an idiot. He says it makes him tear up, so he is MOURNING a loss. He isn't listening to the song in the morning. My God, you're not the sharpest tool in the shed.

I heard this song per first time six years ago, and I still love it yet like the first time. A great song, and a great band. Greetings from Uruguay

@marcusphillips2288

Just from their concert right now all the way down here in Uganda...these guys are amazing...

@bengrillet

Had never heard of this band (living in the UK) until we watched the first Euro-cop series of "The Team" on Netflix this summer, which used their track "Northern Road" as the theme tune.
Now I am utterly obsessed with them, and grieving for all the lost years and missed live performances.
I now play the first two albums continuously, either on speaker, on headphones, or in my head. I even wake up with a track playing in my head. I'm just in love with Lara's voice and the simple but beautifully structured and imaginative backing from Maarten Huygens, the solid and emotionally driven drum and bass. I dream of seeing theme live one day soon 😍

@marekwaszkiewicz4899

@vogeltje
