In my opinion the recording of the drums on this track is one of the best sounds Ive ever heard. The Floor tom at the end is just gorgeous. It sounds like it may even be a bass drum, I'm not sure. Its so in your face, it may even be an overdub. Either way, the drum sound on this song is fantastic.

Damon Kelly it's a bass drum. In fact, two of them. Baker wanted to compete with the guitar sounds, so used two bass drums but rather than using them in an alternating left/right fashion, he stomped them at the same time and came up with that sound. Crazy

Ginger was my favourite drummer of all time. I knew he was unwell. I saw Joker yesterday arvo and this song brought tears to my eyes. A strange, beautiful, and much needed release from the emotions that I'd built up during the film. Awoke to the sad news. Rock in peace Ginger 🤘✌️

Ginger Baker was one of my earliest influences on drums when I was a kid. I studied his work for years, especially this song because it stood out to me. Love playing this song on drums to this day.

This song is insane. It's somehow melodic and completely out of control simultaneously. Like a runaway train that hasn't skipped the tracks yet, but inevitably will. They don't write 'em like that anymore.

I'd say it's more like a train that almost gets derailed, but then slips back onto the tracks in a way that somehow makes sense. 8/8 notes, but the tempo keeps changing in a phase-like pattern. I've noticed this in pretty much every song that I've ever tried to sample, but with psychedelic music, it's exaggerated to maximum effect. You can't replicate it with an algorithm. It needs to be played.

@Andrzej Rzepecki hold your horses chief😂. it was a fantastic movie with many layers, to me it felt alittle abstract when it came to the timeline and story with alot of audience interpretation, it felt like I was watching a microsoft powerpoint slideshow building piece after piece until the climax/breaking point, its almost like it was filmed in 2nd person and you're narrating the movie in ur head

I remember talking to a friend in school (London, UK) when this first came out. His name was Mick Jarrett was almost screaming the title of this song, in awe of it, while we talked about the album. His brother was an engineer at Abbey Road studios almost around the corner from our school. Mick went on to do music production and recording engineering. Sadly, I've learned he died fairly young.
