Life of a Nine
Issues Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Heart broken, throat is swollen.
Street walking, loss of hope.
Fresh wounds, old scars you've chosen.
Thirsty for a taste of you.

She's a mothafuckin' five living the life of a nine,
And thinking that she's a bad bitch, chick is a savage.
Eatin' the bullshit of every player that's grabbing, yeah.
I guess if you're in love with the streets, then you'll die in the sheets,
With the coke on your chest and his lips on your cheek.

Play it up for me, cause no one here can see,
All of your schemes so it's more like a dream.
Whoa, ooh la la la
You can be all that you see when you lie to your mirror.

It's not the way to do it.
Can you hear the sound of your heartbeat bumpin' so loud
In his car when you're hitting the town, getting around?
Sounds so empty, but you pop another pill so you won't feel guilty.
You know the routine, cause when you get lit every guy is the man of your dreams.
It's so surreal when VIP's on her knees.

Yeah, she's a mothafuckin' five living the life of a nine,
And caught up in the traffic of midnight madness.
If only there was a way to let go of the passion,
For her stiletto complex, in her trap-house fashion.
Wanna get in the game? what is your name? wanna have fame?
But in retrospect you're just like your mother you'll never win,
You'll never change!

Play it up for me, cause no one here can see,
All of your schemes so it's more like a dream.
Whoa, ooh la la la
You can be all that you see when you lie to your mirror.

Pretend that you live for this moment,
Be sure how you live it is worth every breath.

Pretend that you live for this moment (for this moment),
Be sure how you live it is worth every breath.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Issues' song Life of a Nine paint a vivid picture of a young woman who is struggling with her identity and self-worth. Heartbroken and with a swollen throat, she navigates the streets with a loss of hope. She is simultaneously dealing with fresh wounds and old scars that she herself has chosen, while also being thirsty for a taste of something more, perhaps love or validation.

The chorus of the song highlights her conflicting emotions, as she sees herself as a "bad bitch" and "savage", while also feeling like just a "mothafuckin' five" living the life of a nine. She's caught up in a cycle of eating the bullshit of every player that's grabbing, and dying in the sheets with the coke on her chest and his lips on her cheek. She's living a dangerous and empty life, popping pills so she won't feel guilty and getting caught up with VIPs on their knees.

Ultimately, the song is a cautionary tale about the dangers of living a life that is not true to oneself. The singer is pretending to be someone she's not, lying to herself and everyone around her. She is chasing fame and validation, but in reality she will never win, she will never change. The lyrics urge the listener to be sure that the way they live their life is worth every breath.

I dont understand what you're saying.  Are you saying that the lyrics in this song are too inappropriate for the radio? Because if so, you're a fucking idiot.  Do you not realize every pop song on the radio talks about drugs, sex, gangs, etc..?  Let's just quote some of the lines from Beyonce and Jay-z's new song called "Drunk In Love":
"I've been drinking, I've been drinking
I get filthy when that liquor get into me"
...
"Foreplay in the foyer, fucked up my Warhol
Slip the panties right to the side
Ain't got the time to take draws off, on site
Catch a charge I might, beat the box up like Mike"

(In case you dont know, "box" is another word for pussy, which in case you dont know is another word for vagina, which in case you dont know is the female genitalia...)

Or how about the song "Up!" by LoveRance where majority of the lyrics just say "I beat the pussy up".

My wife works at an inner city school, and there are 3rd graders who sing both of these songs daily.  So if you think this song isnt poppy and stupid like radio songs, than you're blind. This song literally talks about drugs and blow jobs. This is EXACTLY what would be on the radio.

Try to scream it you if u can I dont guess that u make it better or better go to listen ABR august burn red if u dont know or bet go to listen your justin b..

@yungjuicebox1335

August burns red doesn't have that good screams either. The entire metalcore genre doesn't have that much power to the screams usually. Deathmetal, deathcore, and slam have the powerful screams and gutturals. Its just a fact.
