1 Guitarist/keyboardist James Mason was a member of Roy Ayers' legendary late-'70s jazz-funk band, making his most prominent appearance on the 1977 LP Lifeline and its Mason showcase cut "Running Away." That same year, Mason recorded his debut solo album, Rhythm of Life, for the tiny New York independent label Chiaroscuro. It went out of print in an extremely short time, and Mason never recorded another one, pretty much disappearing from sight. However by the '90s, Rhythm of Life had attained near-Holy Grail status among acid jazz enthusiasts, partly because of its rarity and partly because its music -- even more rooted in funk than Ayers' -- seemed to perfectly epitomize what the rare-groove revival was all about. Finally, in 1999, England's Soul Brother Records acquired the rights to the master tapes and reissued Rhythm of Life on CD, allowing the album to claim its rightful status as a lost classic.

In 2003, James wrote and recorded a solo album entitled Carnival Sky under the label Sonoface Records. Several tracks on this record feature James’ brother, Christian Mason. On these collaborative tracks, both brothers were surprised to find that they had penned a unique and striking sound. With two finger-picked acoustic guitars playing in unison, the brothers created an arresting, acoustic wall of sound. The record drew praise from places as far away as Luxembourg and Greece for its stripped-down acoustic ballads, redolent of L.A. troubadour Elliott Smith.

All around me
I am safe
Sweet power your embrace
Leave me wanting another taste
Another taste of your
Sweet power your embrace
Now the feeling
Sweet, sweet power your embrace
All around me
I am safe
Sweet, sweet power your embrace
Leave me wanting another taste
Another taste of your
Sweet power your embrace
Now the feeling
Is here again
Sweet power your embrace
All around me
I am safe
Sweet power your embrace
The lyrics to James Mason's song Sweet Power Your Embrace speak to the feeling of safety and contentment that comes from being held by someone you love. The repetition of "sweet power your embrace" creates a sense of comfort and security, and the desire for "another taste" of this feeling speaks to the deep yearning for intimacy that we all experience as human beings.
The lyrics also suggest a sense of longing and nostalgia, as the singer remembers how this feeling used to be and desires its return. There is an underlying sadness to the song, as though the singer knows that this feeling is fleeting and cannot be sustained forever. However, the beauty and power of the embrace is enough to provide comfort in the present moment.
Overall, Sweet Power Your Embrace is a poignant and deeply emotional song that speaks to the universal human experience of love, loss, and longing.

This brings me soooooo much pleasant memories!! I was in my teens in the 80s when this came out. My brother was a dancer at many of the London jazz funk soul clubs, and he used to blast this record out, whilst practising his moves in the mirror. So happy to find it again.
